My MTH 30-1215-1 P&WV 0-6-0 engine suffered board failure several months ago.  The cost of replacement boards and labor was within about $35 of getting a factory fresh Atlantic Coast Line 0-6-0 30-1209-1 engine and swapping shells.

Can this engine be reprogrammed so it now has the P&WV cab number and "personality"  or is this datum hardwired into the Atlantic's board's firmware chip that only MTH could change?

Rod,

The factory programming will still be burned in the main chip however, and anytime you add the engine to a new handheld it will come up as such.

Not exactly.

The engine will always have its original, factory-given name in its memory. However, when you add a Custom Name to the engine, that name will appear in any DCS Remote to which you subsequently add the engine.

This wil be the case until you perform a Factory Reset  of the engine, at which time the Custom Name will be removed and the engine will add to any DCS Remote with it's original, Factory name.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Thats what I wondered.  Seems if boards were replaced, there would have to be a way to configure its firmware to reflect the engine name and cab.
