Changing Windows on Heavyweight Cars looks better.

Maybe it’s just me but I’ve always liked the green tinted windows  

I remember seeing that effect on Philly area passenger/commuter trains years ago - Reading / PC / maybe even late PRR or early SEPTA 

Anyway - just my thoughts

Real good suggestion for the folks with the Polar Express if they want their windows to match the movie.

Looks good. I've never understood why Lionel's windows aren't clear. Sure some railroads had tinting, but nothing that dramatic and not most roads. 

Are those new tooling cars?  They really look good in the photos above, unlike the cars of ten years ago that I just dumped for a hundred bucks each.  How long are they?

What cars are you referring to?  I have a set of Lionel Heavyweight cars from 2003 in Southern Crescent livery and the are stunning!

That is a nice job adding windows to the H-10.  Adding windows to my H-10s has not hit my To-Do List yet.  I have way too many projects and not enough me time to do them.  I just finished my Lionel 21" Challenger Dome Coach car tonight.  Finishing the lower level of the Observation is next.

Good topic. I have always wondered about the green tint, and haven’t been able to verify the accuracy. I am going to change out all my passenger cars windows. The original green reacted with glue and appears like a mold is growing on them. I’ve tried cleaning and nothing helps. Thanks for posting your pictures. The cars look great. 

Which passenger cars had the green tinted windows?

Did the cars come with the Broadway Limited set that Lionel recently shipped?

Lionel C&O George Washington, Pullman cars, Heavy Weight 

Just in case anyone is still following this thread.... I spoke with the curator at the B&O Museum, and he said that the windows on these cars (C&O Geo Wash. Pullman passenger) were clear. Therefore, I will be installing all clear windows in my set.

Same cars, same tooling, about 19" long.

Nice work - and, to say the least, a lot of it.

A (slight) green tint was common in Lionel modern passenger cars of 10+ years ago, when they still used plastic strips (and sometimes glued them in with a solvent that corroded them). Never understood what they used the aquarium tint in later cars. Anyway, looks much better as modified by John Rowlen.

I have used borosilicate (Pyrex) glass slides to replace plastic translucent sheets in K-Line interurbans. Pro-tip: don't put clear windows in a car if it has lights but no interiors, you can guess what it looks like.
