I pre-ordered two of the Lionel 27873 Polar RailRoad Reindeer Stock Cars, before Christmas last year.  They just shipped from Charles Ro.  These stock cars are suppose to come with four reindeer in each car.  One package was fine, but the other came with these...

Since we are only going to want reindeer in our reindeer stock cars, I thought I'd warn you all.  I'd hate to see someone get one and store it until Christmas and then find out they have bovine in the mix.  I have contacted Lionel for two replacement deer...I am waiting on a reply.  The cars are beautiful though.

Bob

I can honestly say that I haven't seen reindeer in a prototype car either.  Do you have pictures to back this up?

Reindeer travel on the subway I think......

Lionel replied to my email.

"I do apologize I checked our parts list and it comes with 4 cows. The following is a link showing the parts list"

Polar Railroad Reindeer Stock Car

Well, I found three reindeer that came with the Lionel Reindeer Feed Ramp Car.  They are a slightly different color and shinier.  They are the two on the left and one on the far right in the photo below...

...and since cows come with Reindeer Stock Cars, I am keeping one in the car...with a slight modification......

...Moodolph the red-nosed cow...

"Moodolph" runs on track power.  The neck of the cow was hollowed out to fit an Evan Designs chip LED and was filled in with hot glue.  Then the glue was coated with white acrylic paint.  I modified the stock truck to accept a center rail pickup roller.  I purposely only added one pickup roller to this car...this way the light will blink, once in a while, as it passes over switches and such.

So after all this, they are indicating it was supposed to come with cows???  Doesn't sound likely since paulp also got reindeer with his.

That parts document looks like a classic case of re-using a standard pic for a car that is slightly different (the trucks and screws are very believably the same as other stock cars)

Had to do a double take when I hit the Reply button by the way, will take a little to get used to your new screen name!

Thanks for the comments.

It sounds like this is a China thing and Lionel has no replacement deer.  I'm fine with it.

I had replied back to Lionel (that is what sparked my little project here).  This was my reply...

Wow.

Are you saying that a
REINDEER STOCK CAR
is suppose to come with
COWS???

Who would want Moodolph in their

"REINDEER STOCK CAR".

Lionel must be joking.

-Keith

...and this was Lionel's reply...

Keith,

I apologize for an inconvenience, unfortunately it looks like production no longer manufactures the stock car with reindeer. It really does come with cows and I do not have any reindeer to send to you.

Sorry,

Lionel.

Well isn't nice to know that a foreign nation can now tell us what we can have made and what we can't have made even though we told and ordered what we wanted .

This is the trouble with manufacturing in a foreign country where you have NO CONTROL !

If this happened in this country, perhaps the manufacturer could have made the car and put a coupon in the box for a later cash-in for the missing part when it was made available.

We have only to see our American Olympic Team wearing foreign style designed and manufactured clothing as they parade in front of other nations.  What a sad fate for us AMERICANS !

For all those " nay sayers", who say we can not manufacture anything in this country anymore, this is caused by you; and you are the biggest part of the problem.

We need to shed our dependence on foreign manufacturing and do things here at HOME, in the good old U.S.A.  Only then will we be truely  FREE!  Dennis M.

Keith that's a fantastic idea you've done with the Moodolph Red Nosed cow...great realisation as well.
