I've been looking for that part for a few years to no avail...
The 6-8003 part is identified as 8003-26 in the following document:

If a source is found, I'd appreciate notification!
I'm not sure if the 6-18006 plaque would work or be sourced. The supplement shows the part number to be 610-2101-023

Thanks, I will call Lionel tomorrow, hope they can come up with the part, I will keep in touch, Frank
The 8003 and 18006 plaques are different, but at least on the 8003 plaque I tried ordering a few back in the eighties and they were not available then either.

Thank You very much for the info, I still have the original piece ,I just don't want to use glue to put together, I will keep trying I guess.
@oldpirate, Like yourself, I have my original too and don't want to glue it. If you don't mind undefined time frames, I can look into having the part 3-D printed and a new sticker made. @Chuck Sartor, making 1, 2 or 10 isn't all that different, so if you are also interested, let me know.

Chuck is correct. Those 8003-26 signs were never released to Service.

Hello Chuck, I would be interested in the 3-d repro's, let me know what You find out, and how much each for each piece, would take 3 if possible. Thank You, Frank
I would take a few, but this isn't a high demand part. For all the work you would have to put into the project, would it be worth it? The price couldn't be too crazy.
The white one is the prototype, the other my original. Working on getting the prongs just right. My mini production run will be black plastic. I've also got the stickers in design. I'm guessing that I could get these to you for $5 for the first one, $3 for every one there after shipped in the US. The kit would include a black plastic sign board and a sticker for you to apply.
This is a modeler to modeler effort and not a business proposition or money making endeavor; a labor of love for the hobby.

Let me know how they turn out, I will be willing to buy 3.
The sticker design has been sent to the printer! Here is hoping the result is a good match.
This first run is for 10. I've got 3 for @oldpirate, 3 for @Chuck Sartor and can't forget 2 for myself. That leaves one up for grabs if there isn't a production issue. If there is a demand, more likely could be made.
I would bet if they are done nice, Jeff Kane (train tender) would probably buy some also. Might send the 10th to him for a sample.
I am willing to take the last one. Let me know the cost. Thank you.

Thanks can't wait to get them, also presently waiting on another Chessie 8003 Locomotive I bid on early this week, hope it is intact. Thank You very much, Frank

I did some searching and found Tomar Industries makes the drum head as pictured above in a kit. It's listed in the "Miscellaneous" section. Below is the link to that section. Click on the "Miscellaneous" and it's #994. Check mark "O". I just ordered 2 kits.

This is a perfect example of the power of this forum. Not to minimize the power of the forum to dictate the marketing and product lines of Lionel, MTH, etc.
But this; shared experiences of fixes, and shared experiences of product quality, make the forum an interesting and valuable resource.
The time has come! Here is a picture showing an original and the remake (no, I didn't indicate which is which). Please remember that this is a modeler to modeler effort and not a business proposition or money making endeavor; it is a labor of love for the hobby. Be very tactful of any criticisms as to not sour the attitude of myself or others to attempt similar feats in the future.
This picture also shows a variation on the 8003 - the coloring of the flagstaffs and the presence of paint or not on the top of the stairs.
My email is in my profile, so please confirm your "order" via email and provide shipping details.

Looks really nice, good job!
Thanks for your efforts!
I'll be shipping this week!
@oldpirate, are you interested in your 3 or can I give them to the next interested party?
Bmoran4, I will take the 3 if You have them available, Thank You very much, Frank, if possible may You email me.
Have these shipped out yet?
The comparisons are close enough for me. If there is another production run, I would like to be considered for 2 if that is not a problem. Many Thanks.
@Clarence Siman, I've completely shipped all that have been produced. If there is some demand, more could be made.

You and everyone should have been emailed tracking numbers.
Mine arrived in the mail last night & they look great! I'll fit them on my loco tomorrow. Thank you so much for this! I was worried this would be the one part that would end up missing.
Mine arrived as well and looks terrific. Thank you again.
This was an interesting endeavor for me and puts some appreciation behind those who attempt to make a living doing similar things. I'm glad that these are working out for everyone!
What a great project, love to see stuff like this! You turned unobtainium into just another part.
I just got around to opening the envelope today. Very nicely made and the stickers fit perfect. Finally the part is available after almost 40 years. Thanks for your efforts.
