Focusing on New England diesel era railroading and the Maine Central in particular, I wanted a representative of a chop nose GP7 but none available in O scale that I know of. Red Caboose GP7 body shells are somewhat available and I thought that would be a good starting point for this project. Atlas has since obtained the molds and after some updating have been producing their GP7. Once again, I turned to forum member, Old Goat for him to work his craftsmanship in converting a Red Caboose high nose GP7 into a chop nose unit. This is the results of Matt's skills and his attention to details. He used many prototype photos in his rendering even adding door scribe lines and hinges. I suppose the body would fit onto an Atlas chassis but I would have to remove the front motor because of the bodies low hood. I think I will instead mount it to it's original Red Caboose chassis by modifying the front truck an mount. It used a horizontal motor and driveshafts. Will add a ERR Beep Commander board for TMCC operation. That is a stock Atlas GP7 shell in the first picture for comparison.
