Hello O scale world ...a CLW NYC Mike surfaced .. Offered in the 1947-50 you got a bag of Adams & Son castings , vague instructions , hope and a pray ..

Engine runs great ..fully sprung drivers ..hand lettered ..nicely finished ...loves crawling around the layout . A talented builder created this gem .

Hello all ..thank you for your kind words ..yes very fortunate to have the Mike in the roundhouse ...  here is an ad MR 1947 ...that showed you the bag of parts you started with ....just your typical one-nighter with a screw driver .  for more information about the history of CLW  please see online  O Scale Resource  Sept/ Oct 2019   "the story of Adams & Son Model Foundry " by the late Steve Neill .

Hello all ..

Stephen sorry ..first time I saw it my eyes popped wow a CLW Mike ! ...those don't grow on trees .

Boiler is rolled ..but lots of lead inside ..very talented builder .

The 1939 2 rail Multiplex layout has 48" radius ...engines of course would like larger ...but they seem happy just to be getting some exercise and don't complain ...too much.

Stephen there was a you tube link above ..but here it is again

Cheers Carey,

Lovin' the bronze age history lessons.   The roots of scale modelling and the artifacts of the era has been an interest of mine ever since I got exposed to O.   It's great to see ongoing research and documentation of lost industries.

Re that sharp looking H10.  It shares a kindred spirit with the Hines offering of a light mike during that same immediate post-war period.  Still, major casting differences show there is no manufacturing relationship.

Keep 'em coming!

Hello all ...sure Bob  lets start a Hines  posting ...  do you have the Hines Pacific ? ...that one has eluded me ..

Bob mentioned the CLW Berkshire .... which ties in with the Hines line ... Bill Lenoir designed the Hines Mikado and a beautiful Berkshire...patterns set off to Adams and Son for casting ...Mikado castings set back to Hines to sell ... Hines forgot to pay the foundry bill ......Berkshire castings remained with Adams ...till a debt needed to be paid to Bob Smith  of CLW ..... off go the Bershire castings to CLW ....  it was a very small world  in the early O scale world .

Here is the marvelous  Bill Lenoir  designed Berkshire ... for Hines , cast by Adams  sold by CLW . ( 1948 -50 window )

Manufacturers spelling corrected.

Here's my Hines mini Mike.  At the time of this photo I had added enough detail that it warranted a coat of paint.  Since then it has been stripped and more brass detail added.  It is currently propelled by a 24V can motor and is becoming even more of a smooth operator as my tweaking skills improve.
