Hi everybody!

When I first got into Lionel trains over 30 years ago I always wanted, being a kid growing up very close to the PRR New York to Philadelphia  line was what I thought was the crown jewel of PW Lionel, was the  GG-1.  However at the time and also when I started collecting Lionel the prices were way beyond my financial capability.  However, recently I noticed on ebay that much to my surprise and delight, their prices have gone down somewhat.   As a result, I see a plethora of "semi-scale" GG-1's listed in just about all flavors.    As a matter of fact, I just purchased one, an MPC in PC that I always coveted for just about $150 in "like new" condition.    Therefore, are there any real differences when compared and evaluated between the MPC Tuscan and Brunswick Green models, the several post 1988 models that at the time I thought were relatively speaking very reasonable, and the various MTH and Williams clones?   Are there some models that for running purposes should be avoided?   The next two and I would like to get as soon as I get authorization from the money police are the two MPC  PRR models, one in each color.   Any thoughts, comments or suggestions from your experiences or what you have learned would be great!

No means an expert here but I have two. A Williams and a Lionel Conventional Classic. The shells are identical save the Williams doesn't say Lionel on it. The Lionel has Pulmors and the Williams DC cans. No comparison in running and pulling power though. Its Williams hands down. I have only seen K-Lines and their shells have slightly more detail. I would expect them to run similar to Williams with a pair of the same motors.

I don't think you can really go wrong with any of them.  MTH PS1 models require a little extra care because of the battery issue, but that can be overcome.  K-Line's shell is a little thinner and there have been reports of ladders breaking off as I recall.  Williams will likely run forever with the can motor setup.  Lionel will run as long as there are parts available.  I have the only "shorty" GG1 that matters to me in my collection.  Not in the best condition, but it is an original 1947 Lionel 2332.  My other 15 O GG1s are scale length.
