Zach:

Glad you had a good time there. I have been there 4 times during that last 10 years.

I always look for the vintage subway cars there but the new ones (R-160s) are interesting as to their components in and under the cars.

I would have gone on the tour you were on but my friend who goes with me objected to having to send in a copy of his driver's license in order to take the tours now. I feel the same way because since having been to all of the subway yards on tours and other similar places and by now we are well known to those giving the tours. Why should subway railfans who are members of the transit museum and the ERA have to submit IDs. Our membership cards should be enough.

If you want to get inside the Coney Island Yards to see and watch the guys who work on keeping the vintage subway car fleet going just show up at the yard office on Shell Road on Tuesdays around 6:00pm to get in. You have present a government issued picture ID from them to photograph. To get on a tour of of the yards you have to be with a group such as with the Transit Museum or the Electric Railfan Association.

wait so you can go there any tuesday and just walk in ?

Hey Zack,

Do they service the R and M out there anymore or is that mainly serviced at Jamaica Complex, it's been a long time since I worked out there. Also nice shot of the R32 I heard that those are going to be scrapped pretty soon, I intend to ride one more before they do as I and that train have a great history being that it never broke down when I rode it and when I did maintenance checks I looked forward to working on them because they were the easiest to work on.
