I operate layout with  MTH- Z4000 transformer. When AA units powered on track lights & sounds operate in neutral.  When directional button pushed cab lights blink & no movement ,same whether forward or reverse. I've had no reaction from any other engines similiar to this. Has anyone else who operates only conventional experienced this or can tell me what's happening ? Please help !  All the Lionel literature & manual states these units will operate with a conventional transformer. Thanks, Mike

All switches are on top & run switch is only one on,all others off. When leading A unit only is powered in neutral lights & sound work. As soon as I  push direction button cab light blinks & engine does not move. When trailing A unit is by itself it quietly moves forward or reverse. I only use MTH Z-4000 transformer. I had the same problem with Lionel's FA2 BOTH POWERED AA LEGACY ENGINES & sent them back. Literature still says they will act conventionally.

Which FA's? They did the exact same thing?

Do you know anyone with TMCC or Legacy to see if the lead unit actually works at all. Is it a freak chance you have 2 defective sets or are there more? (IIRC Lionel had issues with the PA's and RS-11's that reset to engine 1 when powered off, but they ran.)

My question was deleted because I originally posted under Lionel Three Rail.

Here's my question and I pasted the original replies from the following members:                                   WesternPacific2217,                                                                                                           Putnam Divison                                                                                                                         MartyE

And, may I ask Putnam Divine to repost the video?

Thanks again.

Question:                                                                                                                                       Is there anyone familiar with the Lionel Legacy F7 AA sets with two powered A units? Page 58. http://catalogs.lionel.com/2022/BB/   I have not purchased Legacy, does anyone have experience on how well these engines are able to pull a load of train cars and are they reliable?

First Member: Reply by WesternPacific2217  To have the best experience with a Legacy Locomotive you'll need a Legacy base and Legacy Cab2 remote, or you'll be missing a lot of features. Better yet, wait for the new Base3 to start shipping, you can have it all!

I have 7 Lionel Legacy locomotives from catalogs 2008, 2009, qty 2 2010, 2011, 2012, and just recently from 2021. I run them often, and only one issue with 1 of the 7 locomotives and it was a bearing in the one of the motors. My 2008 is a WP F7 ABA set, only one A unit is powered, and it pulls 9 freight cars, or 5 aluminum passenger cars just fine. That includes a 2% grade on my layout, and it the powered F7 just cruises up the grade like it isn't there.

That said, I find my Legacy locomotives very reliable, a bunch of fun, and powerful. With 2 powered A units you should be able to power just about any consist you can make up. If Lionel had offered a F7 Southern Pacific in the Black Widow paint scheme, I would have ordered a set.

Second Member: Reply by Putnam Division: These F7s are from 2017……but with the powered B unit added in….and, very reliable….. (attached video was deleted.)

Third Member: Reply by MartyE If they are anything like the F3s, they should pull just fine.
