I'll be getting some Atlas O 40' Woodside Reefers in 2-Rail that I might want to convert to 3-Rail.  Any insights on how easy/hard this might be?

Looks like the 2-rail trucks will just unscrew with the removal of 1 screw and then I can put the 3-rail truck in it's place.  However, to remove the scale coupler and it's mounting box, it looks like I have to take the car apart to get to the coupler mounting screws.  Is that right or is there an easier way?

This is my first experience with Atlas O, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Stu

Nope not that hard. You have to carefully pry up the bottom lid on the coupler box. Most do it from the rear most part of the lid. Flat screwdriver works good. Once off you see 2 screws holding the box on the car and you are done. Threads on this forum have shown pics on this if you search.

There's an alternative way if you're part of a "buddy system". I didn't want to go through the hassle of removing the couplers and trucks on one reefer to swap with another, so I just unscrewed the whole chassis and did the swap. If you have a buddy interested in the 2-rail who happens to have 3-rail 40-foot woodsides you can do a chassis swap. Much faster and easier.
