I would like to convert a conventional lamp Headlamp over to a LED. Would this be an easy conversion, assuming you have the correct resistors on your LED. Attached is the schematic, with a brown and black wire. I tested the LED against the brown and black wire and nothing? Hmmm, what would be the best way to go about this?

A couple of things.
First off, the light triacs won't fire without a resistive load, so just an LED and a resistor won't do the trick.
I put a 470 ohm 1/2W resistor directly across the lamp outputs, which provides the load necessary to get the triac to fire. Next, the polarity of the LED is an issue, I would guess the negative of the LED goes to the brown, but if it doesn't work, try it the other way. The resistor in series with the LED is also mandatory, or the LED will have a very short life, about 2-3 seconds. I'd probably use around 470 ohms 1/4W for that resistor.
Thanks John. I will take your advise.
I'm questioning if I want to put an LED in there at this point. I am prone to keeping original, at least when it comes to lights.
Since your reading my reply (hopefully). What is the difference between a R2LC CO8 and a R4LC C08? I have another locomotive I want to upgrade from conventional which probably will as well another CMM, and see Modern Train does not have in stock. Thanks in advance. Brian
We have Cruise Commanders and Cruise M in stock. What are you looking for.

There is no practical difference between the R2LC and R4LC with the same C08 firmware. The newer unit was created for Legacy, and since it's backward compatible with TMCC, they dropped production of the older board.
Either will work fine with the Cruise Commander or Cruise Commander M.
