Have to (ashamed to?) admit I've never seen those double ties before. Seems to me it would limit layout flexibility (but probably speeds set up for simple loops).
Nice lot of tinplate Hornby accessories there as well, thanks for sharing.

Yes they are. Darstaed also produce a Castle which I understand uses the same casting.
