I've just received my Sunset Horse Car. As I was preparing to add Kadees I realized that they aren't going to work as the coupler box that is included appears to be for a different type of coupler and it is set too far back into the car to just mount a kadee box and coupler. Has any one dealt with this on a Sunset passenger car before. I'd really rather not have to drill and tap new holes on a nearly $400 new car.

I suggest that you contact Scott Mann directly. He will definitely help you.

I have the exact same car, but yet to install couplers or run.
Yet to look at coupler pockets. 3rd Rail is usually very straight
forward and standard.

I used to rub race horses and still have friend scattered a various farms around the world. Having shipped by truck and Tex Sutton in an airplane I still have nightmares from, I would have had a blast shipping the barn, all 40 head and tack by train talk about a classy way to ship horses> Gone are the days when the ox falls down.
What type of couplers came with the car? Are they knuckle-type? Might they just work with Kadees, without a change?

On my Sunset BM70 the stamped steel coupler pocket mounting bracket was installed backward. I simply unscrewed it from the floor and rotated it 180 degrees. The Kadee pocket then mounted with the right setback.
