Yes, I bought one of these. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Anyone have one of these, and do you operate it with Legacy? Are there multiple announcements, and do they interact with the locomotive crew talk? So far the only crew talk I've been able to get is the 'inaudible' button 2 talk, and the 'ready to roll' (or something like that) from button 7. The manual says "there are different announcements...see how many you can detect". Also since the lead loco determines the operating mode (and the caboose is CAB 1), do I have to place the Legacy equipped loco in TMCC to get the pair to interact?

Thanks, I appreciate any info you can furnish.

It's a 6-19890 Santa Fe Railsounds, Crew Talk, Bay Window. It's referred to as an Engine in TMCC, not as a car. So in a lashup you add it as another engine. The original manual outlines the procedure with a CAB 1, so I'm sorta in the dark how to do this with Legacy. It appears to "link" with the lashup, but I expected the caboose to respond when the locomotive 'crew talk' is initiated. I'm running Legacy v 1.4, and the locomotive is a Legacy 4-8-4 Northern. I have no TMCC loco's, only legacy.

I did this with both of the legacy loco's I own, and still can't get it to work. The confusion is the setup manual for the caboose was written for the cab 1. It tells you to install the caboose as the 'front engine' (to enable the railsounds)then press the direction button to make the caboose think it's backwards. Then reset the direction of the lashup. and I quote "now all engines respond together when you address them with their train #. Crew talk and Tower Com will activate in both units from a single command". Something got lost in the translation between tmcc and legacy.   Maybe someone out there has actually used this combination, and decoded the process...all I can do is hope

legacy is tmcc only newer. the cab2 is just a newer cab1 with a glass screen for all practical purposes.  there are lots on lionel items that only talk about the cab1 and they work with the cab2.   did you change the engine to tmcc by pressing the info button and then scrolling to the tmcc screen?  I am probably not explaining it correct, I had a similar issue trying to program my TPC, the directions only mentioned cab1 .

Yes, I did that, changed to tmcc. Didn't seem to make any difference. Just lost the 200 speed step. But they tell you to load the caboose as the lead loco, yet the lead loco also sets the operating mode (according to the legacy manual). I guess I'll try again in the morning, starting from scratch...sooner or later it'll come to me. Thanks for your help. Ray
