Herein, a salute to the countless thousands who sacrificed so much for us, starting with my dad. His unit had to wait offshore on June 6 due to the intensity of German defenses. The next day they were able to go ashore and clear and level the land that would become air strips to evacuate the seriously wounded from France back to hospitals in England. Evacuation began late on June 7.
