I would like to add DCS to my all Lionel Legacy train platform. Would like to know if the following arrangement would work.

Add DCS to  my existing layout, obtain the MTH DCS Explorer Track Interface unit on one power district, and use the MTH  WiFi controller to control the MTH engines and use the Cab1 controller on the legacy WiFi controller to control the lionel engines. Will this work?

Jim,

RickO is correct about the preferred wiring type, however many people have added DCS to their existing Legacy Layout without rewiring.  Give it a try 1st and see what happens, with the DCS.  A lot of this depends on how large your Legacy Layout happens to be, when you want to add DCS to it.   There is lots to learn about DCS, pick up Barry's DCS O Gauge Companion and the OGR Video Guide to DCS, both these 2 formats have great educational material in them.

I run DCS and Legacy and have a great time doing it, make sure when you purchase your DCS it has an L revision TIU and is up to the latest changes.  I have no need for WiFi so I can not help you there, if you need more help come back and the guys will help you blend the DCS into your Legacy operation.

Good luck and have fun.

He's using the app so he would buy The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition, which completely covers the DCS Explorer.

The OGR video would be no help at all. It doesn't discuss WiFi since it only discusses DCS 3.1 from more than a decade ago.

This and a whole lot more about DCS WiFi is all in MTH’s “The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition!"

This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!
