Hello all…hoping someone with much more DCS working knowledge/experience may assist on a dilemma I’m having, and may be able to help.

I’m just starting to get into running my layout operation and have hit a snafu, with programming and function on a MTH DCS/TIU multi-loco lashup. Both TIU & remote have just been updated to the latest rev, from the MTH site.

I’ll use my latest attempt as the example, which involves my Atlas ES44ACs (30138200, CSX & 30138194, KCS), however, I’ve also attempted MTH Premier Proto 3 diesels, as well as a mix of Atlas and MTH (Dash, ES, & SD varieties) with the same results.

Each loco was individually added to the remote, on a program track, then placed on the ‘layout’ track, brought up, added to the active list, a lashup was created/named. Lights/sounds/horns function, direction lighting changes, everything shuts down as a ‘unit’ but….they do not move ???

My attempts to ‘troubleshoot’ so far has had me trying to: delete everything, start the entire process over. Same result !!

Each loco (whether MTH or Atlas) will operate indepently as it should, but I’m missing something on the muti-unit lashup….ANYONE ????

every time I start typing a guess, I answer my own question from your description, like....

The same TIU is on the test track and the layout, right? (it's in the description above)

You're pressing done after you build and name the consist? (you have to I believe)

Can you build and get the consist to move on the test track?

I've also had this issue when signal is weak. How good is your track signal?

I'm now wondering if your layout works good with more than 1 engine on the rails?

Any TMCC/Legacy equipment getting power?

What's your power supply?

I have so many questions to figure out where to go. What type track, wiring, number of drops, etc., etc.

I have been running with DCS for decades. I have 7 loops of track. 1 O scale 3 rail. 2 O scale 2 rail. 4 are G scale. I run consists of trains all the time on each. You need to have good signal at the rails because there is 2 way communication. Each engine reports back to the remote with each command. If 1 engine does not, it messes up the whole process.

It's not that hard as some would claim. There are rules to get good signal and if they are broken, the signal strength may suffer. I got a lot of help, from Ray's Electric Trains!

Running a large G scale layout outside with DCS is an example of what can be accomplished. I had to understand how the system works. Then, I built it and had great success. Provided clean abundant power through good wiring, and I can run just about anything.

Inside was easier. However, if I put things on the rails that draw the signal down, results can be poor.

I never use the "all-engine" command. It is easier if you're having issues.
