Ok hear we go I have z4000 4:10 .2003 TIU put fresh Battery s in remote .I deleted all engines from remote. When I put a engine on track turn power on .To 18v the engine starts up .on it's own when I try to add it .I get no engine found can run engine conventionally. If I hit read button it says find TIU 1 but no dcs engine on track. The red LED comes on blinks 1 time the 18v bulb powers up I have on the out put side. Any help would be appreciated thank you in advance Jack k

you don't have the wires reversed anywhere?
Have you tried resetting the TIU?
Is this hooked up to your whole layout? Try setting up a short test track to see if the TIU works.
No reversed wires I have not tried testing you yet .Yes it what I call my tinker layout 2 loops a little sideing in the center it's bin sitting frist time in a wile I have gotten to it last time every thing ran fine
I only mentioned reversed wires because I have done it myself.
what is your engine item number?
First, I would recommend what Engineer Joe suggested, that you hook up only a test section of track.
You need to determine whether the problem is the TIU or the locomotive. Do you have another locomotive to try? If you get the same results, the issue is, probably, the TUI.
I have tried 3 dif engine s 2 Ps2 and a ps3 remote don't find any of them
Menu System DCS set up/ AON... turns the signal on to all channels.
Try another tiu channel. Fixed 2 is the easiest keeping in mind the tiu must be powered up with either power to fixed 1 or an aux power supply.
Jack,
First, connect the remote to the TIU's Remote Input port with a curly telephone handset cable. See if things improve.
Next, as Gregg says, ensure that the DCS signal is turned on for all TIU channels: Menu/System/DCS Setup and press the AON soft key.
Third, one more time, ensure that the red TIU output terminal goes to a center rail and that the black terminal goes to an outside rail.

I do not have the telephone wire will have to pick one up. Why does the engine power up when I apply 18 volts ?
Why does the engine power up when I apply 18 volts ?
Because there's no DCS watchdog signal present. If none of your engines work, there are only 4 possible reasons:
- The wires are reversed.
- The transceiver board has lifted
- The DCS signal is turned off.
- The TIU is broken.

Sounds like you need to open up your remote and re-seat the small RF board. OGR issue 242 page 83 has great instructions by Jim Barret on how to fix it so that it don't happen again.

Cool I will give it a look tomorrow after the snow thanks for all the in put !!
This is pretty easy... Hit the read bottom left on the dcs remote.... Does the read find the tiu or not? If it finds the tiu there's no need of curly phone tether.
It sounds like in your first post that the" read" finds the tiu???
GREGG, is it possible with a loose RF board to still receive but not transmit and does pressing the read button make the RF board transmit to the TIU or does it only read RF signal that the remote is receiving from the TIU?
I don't know 100% ... You can always try to find the tiu version of the software with Menu/ System/ tiu set up / tiu version..
If you can find the version without the tether I'd say it's working properly... At least the communications between remote & tiu. Dcs signal is another story.
It says found TIU 1
JACK, follow Gregg's steps so that the remote is forced to ask the TIU a question.
I have cheated the watch dog signal by throwing the Z4000's handles up too fast.
Ok. I rebook up z4000 to tiu input side - tiu to dis-block / 18v light bulb ant to track. I opened remote press in RF bord add a peice of foam rubber. I pick up a phone cord hooked it to tiu and remote. Power up to 18v the engine makes its click sound .but I get no dcs engine on track or found .my ps3 engine does nothing. What am I missing I m lost with this. I tried reset tiu And reset the remote .still does not pick up the engine .
Since fixed 1 doesn't seem to be working try fixed 2....This is how you might hook it up....hook up one side of the Z-4000 to fixed 1 IN..... This will turn on the tiu so that it can"turn on" .... function or do it's thing
Hook up the other side of the Z-4000 to fixed 2 in... Fixed 2 out goes to the track.
Each tiu channel has a signal generator, It appears fixed 1 is not working so give fixed 2 a try...
A small test track works the best with only one engine receiving power, the other engines should be removed from the track or parked on dead tracks. good luck.
Jack,
tiu to dis-block / 18v light bulb ant to track.
What does this mean in English?
I pick up a phone cord hooked it to tiu and remote.
Is the phone cord 4-conductor? Is it plugged into the TIU's Remote Input port?
Power up to 18v the engine makes its click sound .but I get no dcs engine on track or found .my ps3 engine does nothing.
Did you add these engines to the remote? You must do so before attempting to run them. Just doing a READ isn't enough.
I tried reset tiu And reset the remote .still does not pick up the engine .
Again, after the reset, did you add these engines to the remote? You must do so before attempting to run them. Just doing a READ isn't enough.
Sorry Barry tiu out to distribution block theme to my 18v light bulb and from distribution block to track the phone cord is for pin I have it plug into the remote and tiu remote input port .when I try to add engine to remote it does not find the engine
I just tryed what Gregg said to try power to fixed 1 input jump to fix to input move out put to fixed 2 it worked found the engine .So is my fixed channel 1 fixable
Thank you all for willing to put up with me and helpping me out. I just ran a f3 ps2 and a sd70 ps3 with the dcs remote. All worked fine. But is my fixed channel 1 dead or is it fixable
Yes, Talk to GGG here on the forum
Jack,
But is my fixed channel 1 dead or is it fixable
First, press the following: Menu/System/DCS Setup and press the AON soft key.
That will ensure that the DCS signal is on for all channels. If Fixed #1 still doesn't work and Fixed #2 does work, your TIU's fixed channel #1 needs to be repaired.
Sorry Barry tiu out to distribution block theme to my 18v light bulb and from distribution block to track the phone cord is for pin I have it plug into the remote and tiu remote input port .when I try to add engine to remote it does not find the engine
