Hi,

I recently purchased the premium app and upgraded my Tiu and handheld remote to 6.0.  Now, after the upgrade, I cannot get the trains to run.  I am constantly getting a "No Tiu's Found" error within the app.

Previously, on 5.0 and standard application, everything ran perfectly.

I have a very simple setup, 1 TIU and 1 WIU.  All wires were labeled and put back in the same place after the upgrade.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ron

Ron,

First, some questions:

  • Are you using an iOS device or an Android device?
  • Is your WIU in MTH or Home mode?
  • If in Home mode, how do you know that your network has successfully connected to the WIU?
  • Are you certain that your WIU has firmware 1.1 installed?
  • Regarding the "No TIUs Found" message, when do you get it and how long are you waiting after starting everything up are you waiting to launch the app?

Describe exactly what you do and exactly what happens from the time that you walk into the train room until you see the error message. Be specific and leave out nothing.

Hi Barry, thanks for the quick reply.  Answers below:

I am using Android

WIU is in HOME mode.

I know that WIU is connected as I am intermittently  able to get one of the trains to connect via WIFI and run and then it will go to inactive and not run anymore.

I am fairly certain that 1.1 is installed.  I just reflashed WIU at the same time I upgraded TIU.  On my laptop, the firmware that I downloaded is: WIU_1.1.0.bin.  When I performed the flash, everything completed normally.

I wait about 10 minutes.  I generally start my WIU and do other things and then come back and start the transformer and then start the app on my phone.  When the app is starting I receive "No TIU's found" error, and when I attempt to add a train I get the either "No TIU's found" or "Interrigating..." (I don't remember the exact error)

I can also tell you that when I first bough my WIU, i had the same exact problem.  I didn't realize at the time that the WIU's were shipping with an old firmware level on them.  I found on this forum that I needed to upgrade it.  Once I did, everything ran perfectly and continued to do so until I applied the 6.0 upgrade and moved to premium.  Now, I have the same exact symptoms as I did at first.

Ron,

This really sounds like an issue with your home network or router. I suggest that you reconfigure the WIU to MTH mode and see if things improve.

I've had similar issues in the past that I traced back to my network connectivity being a bit spotty up in the train room, even with an access point upstairs. Moving to MTH mode corrected the problems.

Here is the deal. I talked with MTH Technical Support about 3 weeks ago. They suggested I hard wire my Router to the Wi-Fi Unit. Below are the steps.  I now have over twenty locos programed  and no issues. I run MTH and Lionel Locomotives. Step 2, is the key to having it all work fast.

Yeah, I did.  This just doesn't make any sense.  2 days ago everything ran fine.  I upgrade and can't get it running again.

Also having intermittent problems with the MTH remote control too.  I can randomly get it to add an engine, I can get the engine to run, bells, whistles, etc.  Then I try to add another train and get errors and then the train that was working goes to inactive.  Other times, I get error messages on the remote and nothing works.

Hi Barry:  The photo below shows the Ethernet Cable that I installed from the xfinity router to the Wi-Fi Unit.  The xfinity router is on a drafting table just to the right of the new cable.  The Wi-Fi Unit is about 18 feet from the router.  Add in the up and down to get to the Wi-Fi, it is about 33 feet.

The xfinity cable inters the train room and is in the wall going to the router. Step 2, states: "it seems odd but, trust us"

All I can say it works, with my set up, using an iPhone 7 Plus.

If you're having a problem when using the remote, I'd suggest setting the wifi aside and curing that issue first.  Then you can address layout issues without the added complexity of wifi.

Yes: I agree 100% / Your layout has to work with the MTH DCS Handheld Controller. All issues must be solved using the hand held remote.

Like RJR stated, do not add the complexity of Wi-Fi ...................

If the hand held remote can find the TIU and all the locos, than move onto the issues with the MTH DCS Wi-Fi

Good luck: Gary
