The record  playback in DCS is one of the things I first tried out when DCS came out.  Well I'm playing around with it again, I find that it is not always accurate. But taking that into consideration it can work fairly well.

I would like your experience with this feature.   What is the longest session you recorded? How many trains in a single session ? How complex did you make it ? and any suggestions to make it work better ?

I know each session can be 90 minutes in length or 500 button pushes. anything hooked up to the AIU can be included, and more than one remote can be used at the same time. The recording is stored in the TIU. Up to three sessions can be stored.

Looking forward to your experience

We used it on Christmas day but it was nothing super fancy. Mallet on one loop with passenger cars and the CP holiday train on the other. I purposely didnt want them stopping at specific locations so we did slightly less than a full loop. Had a long pause, startup horn, some speed changes, but the point was it "looked" like it never did the same thing because they never stopped in the same place or at the same time.

Thanks

Right now I have 3 trains in one session, each train parked on its own siding, each train takes a turn on the 300 foot loop, with the Amtrak stopping at station with PFA announcements, then each return to their siding  and the next train leaves. I tried four with always having a train in motion, but I couldn't get the turnouts lined up all the time. I need two or three people to help pull that off.

I use this feature frequently. Depending on what layout I'm running or what I want to do.  I have a portable layout that runs 6 different trains and I use it get everything started to avoid collisions and have another program that runs for 20 minutes that will randomly play whistles and bells on various engines to keep the entertainment going without thinking about it.

At home, specific engines will get parked in specific spots and with the press of play back button, it will execute procedures to automatically uncouple a consist from one engine, park it in a siding, bring out a new engine and couple up to that consist.

I used this feature especially when I have visitors. I would have a bunch, more than a half dozen, start, run and stop. This gave me the opportunity to talk with the guests and not have to worry about the trains. After that run, I would run a program in the “yard” with one engine working to load and unload cars. This involved multiple tracks and switching as well.
