I have three DCS remotes. Two had bad thumb wheels. I replaced the two bad thumb wheels and one worked correct and the other worked backwards. I took the thumb wheel out and replaced it with another new thumb wheel and it still works backwards. It worked the correct way before replacing it with the new thumb wheel. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you wire it correctly as compared to the one working right? G
Thumb wheel not installed in reverse is it? Not sure it could be done but....
If all looks well, then I would suspect a bad batch of thumb wheels and give MTH a call to see if they have had any issues. G
George, what are your thoughts of the color code being followed properly and the wires in the wrong position inside the wheel? You are correct that it only goes in one way. I have done a few wheels and never hit that one.
The thumb wheel will only go in one way. There are two protrusions on the case that fit through two holes in thumb wheel and a tab on the left of thumb wheel that presses on a contact when you press the thumb wheel down. I have three remotes so I purchased three spare thumb wheels in case I would ever need one and that was 3/19/2011 so I've had these for awhile before I needed them.
Marty, you maybe right which is what I suspect. But he has 2 bad ones if that is the case.
guyeh, Do you want to risk a swap from the remote that is working correctly? If the problem moves with the suspect thumbwheel, I would try reversing the outside wires. G
I will probably try that to find out for sure. I sent MTH an E-mail to see what they thought. So if I take the thumbwheel out of the working remote an it works correct in the other remote you are suggesting switching the green to red and red to green on the suspect thumbwheel to see if that will work?

Checked my old one, yes swap red and green. Yellow is the center tap. G
I took the thumbwheel out of the remote that worked correctly and put it in the remote that worked backwards and put the thumbwheel in the remote that worked backwards and put it in the remote that worked correctly and the remote that worked correctly still works correctly and the remote that worked backwards still works backwards. Can I have a software problem? Thanks..
Try this to rule out a software issue:
- Whichever remote works correctly, back it up to your PC using there DCS Loader Program
- Reset the remote that doesn't work correctly and reinstall its DCS software
- Using the DCS Loader Program, copy the backup of the first remote into the second remote.
If the problem persists, its due to hardware issues in the second remote.
If you wire the new thumbwheel reversed, does it work correctly? If so, that's a viable workaround solution.
That is weird. So the thumbwheels are correct. Do you remember what wire went where when you changed them originally? Maybe some are wired backwards. I would try the swap of the green and red. If that doesn't work, I would do the reset. G
This is great info. I ordered a thumbwheel and never installed it. I got the busted one to work by re-enforcing it. The original was acting up a year ago and it's worked great since.
I need to copy that wiring solution incase it ever pops up.
