I've got 8 locomotives in my fleet, 4 are conventional, 2 TMCC, and 2 PS2. I've been thinking of picking up a DCS system (TIU, remote, TMCC base, and adapter cable) over the winter to run my 4 command engines and get access to more of their features. I had a question about adding the TIU to my layout. The power (center rail) wires are done in a star pattern, with one wire running from a toggle switch to a power block. However all track shares one common bus, a 12 gauge wire that runs around the layout with 14 gauge drops from each power block to the common bus. Is this going to present a problem with adding DCS to the layout? Would I end up having to rewire the common wiring or can I just add drop wires from the TIU terminals to the track common?

Lou,
In my opinion (and experience) you should be able to just hook up a TIU and operate DCS, TMCC and conventional engines with only minor, easily correctable issues, if any at all.
Just be sure to purchase your DCS from an authorized MTH dealer and get the latest TIU, Rev. L.
If the DCS doesn't come with the latest software, DCS 6.1, it's easy to update the TIU and the remote.
Everything that you need to know about DCS is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!" This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store! |

Absolutely no problem. That's the way mine is set up. Unless you have an ancient Rev G TIU, connect all of the TIU black output terminals together. (Rev G had them connected internally,)
Thanks for the responses. I'm glad the DCS system will will work with my current layout wiring. I plan on picking up a brand new DCS system from my local hobby shop after the holidays, some time in mid January. Plan is to hook up the DCS system and get my two PS2 locomotives running well with it, then add a TMCC Command base for the TMCC locomotives.
