Ok, I just purchased a NOS Lionel RailSounds car made in 2002.  When I put it on the track I get no lights, no sounds, nothing.  Everything is dead...like the car is getting no power.  With my Legacy control I followed the instructions and even tried resetting the cars electronics, but still nothing.  I checked the underside wiring and everything looks good.  I have the light switch underneath the car turned on.  I also have the Run/Program switch in its proper position.  Based on the wheels and rollers this car has never been run.  I have other Lionel Rail sounds cars that I use so I'm familiar with their operation.  Can anyone give me any suggestions?

It's a standard 4.0 Railsounds sound setup.  Any of us active Lionel Service centers will have the parts in stock to get it going again.  It's basically a Radio R2LC, Railsounds Power board, Railsounds board, speaker and wiring.  You should be able to bring it back to life but without having another similar setup to compare with it could be difficult.

IF the car is in command mode and then you decide to try it in conventional mode, I believe you not only have to  disconnect the command base(unplug)  but also after doing that you also have  to  cycle track power (turn off , wait a few seconds then turn it back on ).    OK   you tried that, back to the drawing board... You did try engine 1 with the cab-2 as a long shot?

The mystery of the dead Rail sounds car has been solved.  My car has been resurrected!

Today I took the car completely apart only to find that all three daughter boards that plug into multi-pin connectors on the mother board had somehow become disconnected and were just laying loose inside the mother board compartment of the car.  NO WONDER this car was...'dead'!!

Well, once I reconnected the three daughter boards to the mother board, and reassembled the car, it worked perfectly.  How all three of these boards got disconnected on a new, never on a track, passenger car I'll never know.  I'm just happy that it works now.  Thanks to all of you for your help, support, and encouragement.
