I think that the background themes on the Bluetooth side of the app are a cool feature. Here are some great suggestions for future themes (Dave, I hope you're reading this!):
-Steampunk (Great for those who like running steam locomotives!)
-Seasonal: winter, spring, summer, fall
-Favorite railroad themes (Santa Fe, PRR, SP, UP, B&O, etc.; I want a BNSF RR theme)
-Halloween (Perfect for running any of Lionel's Halloween locos and train sets, including the new "Eerie" Triplex)
-Sci-fi (futuristic designs; also good for running Lionel's Phantom train)
-Aliens (Great for running Lionel's Area 51 sets and accessories)
-Superheroes (Lionel has DC Superheroes train sets and rolling stock, so this would be perfect)
-Harry Potter
-Thanksgiving (This theme would make some people hungry! Ha, ha!)
-Patriotic
-Hanukkah; Kwanzaa; other holidays (for those who celebrate those; we want to be inclusive here!)
-Could we make our own custom designs and add them to the app? Just an interesting idea.
As always Dave did a good job. I really appreciate these videos because we get the updates on Base3 and see how the app functions. I think Lionel has been fairly good at keeping us updated as to the status whether we liked the news or not.
To be honest I am glad they kept the Bluetooth side similar to what we have now. I'm also glad that Dave conveyed that it is intentionally made to be a more simpler control.
I agree with Dylan that a "few" more themes would be great, especially Halloween. His list is pretty large so I'd definitely get choosey. I'd hate to overload it.
With Base 3 due into Lionel by July 8th, we can't be more than 3-4 weeks away if all goes as planned.
Thanks to @Dave Olson and the entire Lionel team for getting us to this point!
Just downloaded the app and tried it on my home loop with a new S2 It works great and has nice easy to easy interface I love it Now if only bluetooth would have a longer range it would be pefect

My limited experience with Bluetooth it depends on two things. Is it surrounded by metal like a steam engine or plastic like most diesels. With diesels its likely limited by your smart device. Bluetooth on an iPad is said to be just over 30 feet. I just tested it on a Flyerchief board in a diesel and ran out of room in my basement but 30 feet certainly seems possible.
Ben maybe you have a bigger space to test this on?????

Side to Side on that bigger space its good Buuuuuttttt the length is way off LOL
Is there much advantage for a layout like mine with very few Bluetooth engines to go to the Cab 3? ……I like the idea of running from a device, and I wouldn’t mind running from the iPad, ……with little to no support for the Cab 2, is the jump to Cab 3 really worth it for folks like myself??……correct me if I’m wrong, but really soon, Cab 2’s are going to be on borrowed time,……..no??.

HEY DAVE,
After playing with this "NEW" APP on the CAB3 with two Engines:
On the Engine Select Screen:
Two buttons on the left of the Screen"
A "BLUE TOOTH BUTTON" & the one right below it! (Looks like the front of a Steam Engine)
Purpose please!!

To me, and I checked the Power and Control website and didn't see a reference to it, has to do with the Universal Remote. While not mentioned on the Lionel Power and Control site, the same button appears on the Android version of the LC App instructions referenced in the UR manual. I'm confident in saying this is for Hotspot mode to control RF engines via the non Base3 portion of the app.
I may have to delete and reload the app because I keep experiencing some glitching. For example, sometimes the voice command button is usable but after use, I can not activate crew talk no matter how many times I press the button. Other times, when I activate crew talk, it works fine but then I go to activate voice commands and that button will not work. I'm running a lionchief NS diesel.
As an aside, all else worked great and I'm definitely going to buy more lionchief engines now that we can run multiple at the same time with Bluetooth. My young nephews absolutely love the ease of use and functionality with the app on an iphone.
