In a strange convergence of events, i.e., the cleaning and a good re-org of my shop, I managed to locate a neat little box labeled for the Derr 25T steeplecab, Little "GE"nny.  I vaguely recall picking this up somewhere and then apparently I promptly shoved it into the back of workbench #1 and then it was out of sight - out of mind for a few years.  Appears to have all the parts that were recently sold on eBay and then a good bit more, even including a pole, and a note from Derr about milled sides, etc.  However, no trucks or sideframes were in the box.

Curiously, about 18 months ago I had managed to snare a little steeplecab and dropped that into the project queue to be worked upon whenever its number came up - that same cleaning operation put it with the Derr box which immediately indicated that it was an assembled Derr steeplecab.

Moral of the story is that is pays to periodically clean up the shop - never quite know what you may find and that it just might be surprisingly good, too.

Martin,

You are so right. Finding something in your long forgotten stash is better than finding  something at a meet or  on e bay. On the other hand knowing you have that certain something an not being able to find it is another story. Usually buying an item is a sure way of finding your lost item. That is usually when it turns up.

Hope to see you at the 2016 Mass Transit Meet at Rutgers in June. For info go to the New York City Model Transit Associaton web site.

Yup!  Now the decision is what to do with the unbuilt kit given that it just builds the superstructure shell and not the frame, and that I don't have a drive for it either.  Making the frame is just work and that's just on me, but getting the proper drive and sideframes involves money and how many do I need vs. what I have vs. all of the other projects in the queue.

Rutgers is on the calendar - now whether I can actually get there to attend is something entirely different.

Martin,

BRT, BMT, NYCTA. steeple cab number 5 is the same as your loco. It is still on the property and is on display at the New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn NY. Years ago the loco was produced by Miller Models in O Scale out of White Metal. I purchased one at a Lorenzen meet in Englishtown N J years ago. I built it and painted in BRT colors. All the parts and including trucks and motors were Q Car. The correct trucks for my loco were BRT elevated. All of the items all are still available from Q Car. I would send out a photo of it but I do not know how to post it. I will ask Steve Olsen to post the photo for me. It has become one of the favorite models in my collection.
