I have SD40-2 with distorted sounds, runs good all functions work and settings hold. Battery is fully charged. product # 20-2864-1. I'm thinking bad speaker, but it looks good. I have 3 others of these and all seem to be distorted or have some static. All the same age and hours. I do not have any spare speakers. Will a speaker from a new PS3 SD45-T swap out with the sd40-2 as a test to see if it is a speaker problem?

I swapped out the speakers and no change in sound. So I listened more closely to the other five Sd-40's. Four of the older ones(#20-2669-1) all have the same static sound at idle and shut down. The other two newer ones #20-2864-1 are good. All six of these operate very well." I put the wrong item # in original post". Would a new sound file fix these or is there something else I should be looking at ? I run these in MU most the time.

All 3 volt boards. Download the good sound into the other engines.
Thank you Marty........I'll call my local dealer and see he can fit me in somewhere, only a two hour drive. In the mean time I guess it won't harm anything. The two newer ones have a nicer speaker in them.

Thank you everyone 
I had the newer sound installed and it is much better, no more static sound and the sounds are better quality. I set my MU. volume's at 10% and it is plenty loud enough.
