Status symbol? Impress friends? Not when you can't even see it. We use a ZW-C wih 4 bricks and a Z4000 because the layout needs the power. They are both hidden by the Fascia and skirt so no one even knows what there is, or where they are.

The only thing I don't like about the Z4000, when running in a command environment, we can't leave the handles in the on position when powering the layout back up. The handles must be in the off position (0 volts) when powering up, then set the voltage.

I don't have a Z-4000 but have two Z-1000's and like their performance. Also have a post war ZW and a KW transformer, so my power needs are being filled.

Even though I have four O gauge mainlines and two S gauge mainlines and a Super Streets line, I don't see going with a Z-4000 or new ZW-C or ZW-L, as I can't afford such power houses right now.

Terrance L,

No it's not a matter of arrogance, it's a matter of how much power you are going to need for the size of your layout plan and how many trains you are planning to run at one time.  Your Z-1000's are great transformers, however they do not have the side receiver option for running parts of your DCS.  Further your DCS can be run with ZW or KW transformers quite well, with Scott type 10 Amp Breakers between your ZW & TIU.  Remember this however, always over power your layout, you will continue to expand as time goes on.  Also sense you have FasTrack I recommend Command Control switches and Legacy or TMCC to control them.  For a long time I used my ZW & KW transformers to power my DCS layout, I finally broke down and invested in the Z4K, and I was glad I did, it expanded my power and control on my fairly decent sized layout, making everything much nicer to run.

If I buy a Lionel power house brick how can I tell which power supply wire is the red one and which one is the black when adding banana jacks to the ends? I saw Eric Segals video # 18 but he showed how to check the wire using an existing brick  with jacks already attached. I currently have a Z1000 brick attached to fixed input ! , do I just add the Lionel brick to fixed input 2 ? I have a 30 ft. x 6 ft. loop running around my table but I want to add a switch yard using channel 2 for power, as a separate power district, also do these two bricks power the TIU or do I need a separate power source for the TIU?
