The old growler, or newer one? Pros, cons? As I thin out my horde, I'm trying to decide what to keep. I'm now in the camp of "less, but better". I can't have 10 of everything sitting around anymore. I love old, but this might be one of the spots I go newer.

My postwar coaler works great.
I had the repro, now I have the original. They're both loud, but the repro's gear would slip on the shaft.

I'm thinking The Originals the better way to go as well. I have had a few of both over the years but ended up selling them because I never had a layout up and running. But I want to get another one to keep in my Arsenal for the future. But only one. As I'm trying to keep things to a minimum nowadays. I think I'll go with another original. Thanks for the input
Guess I have been lucky to have had the reissue work reliably. I also had the original as a youth, and aside from noisy, also worked well! Either one is a classic!
I have an old Coal Elevator and it runs as good as it ever did. I modified it to fit my coal mining operation in a more realistic way. It's covered with Polystyrene and can be removed so I didn't ruin the authenticity of the old 97.

Gene. That looks great. How did you secure it so its removable
Really nice Gene.
Photos look really great, Gene, as for old vs new, Matt, i`ve had my original 97 since 1997, it`s a little noisy but i`ve never had any issues with it, a little TLC goes a long way, good luck...

I used Polystyrene and fit the custom shell around the coaling tower, The shell just slides over the 97 Coaling Tower. I made a new roof and added a storage and shoot to fill my custom Cardine Coal Co. trucks.
