I talked to my wife about this thread and the idea of putting a hole in the wall for the trains and she thought it was a great idea. Hmmm...well at least I know she would be ok with it.

Yes but did you warn her how BIG the hole was going to be!

Hey, I am lucky I have a very understanding wife, but I don't want to push my luck too far.
Very good JDaddy!!
My wife actually suggested I put a hole in the wall to connect the Ceiling Central RR (which was her suggestion in the first place) into the new train room our daughter is vacating. The trouble is, the new train room is in an addition, and I would have to go through wood paneling, a concrete block, and some bricks. I asked her if she wanted that mess, and she said "no, put a shelf through the corner of the door between the two". So now I have to work on some more planning. Can't waste the opportunity!!
Instead of cutting a hole, you could have run your Lionel die cast veranda straight for the wall.

...And have George at ITT Products make you a custom sound chip (no additional cost) of a huge crashing, crunching, screeching twisted metal, etc. sound mayhem played through an ample speaker, triggered as a train enters the building!........
That little cubby featuring this scenario could be the 'behind the scenes' highlight of the layout! ...not to mention what kind of a smile it might bring to the wife. (In fact, I'd bet she'd be the one to be sure any and all visitors would witness the work of her clever hubby!!

LOL, Ted we may have to double head them and run them at speed...
Mark, you may just need a bigger drill! Good luck with the expansion, and show us some pictures.
This immediately came to mind for me...

Thank you,
I plan to start my own topic once I get some thoughts down in writing and a rudimentary SCARM plan ready to ask opinions. I'll get some photos going once our daughter finishes cleaning out the room.
Awesome, but only one hole? My wife wasn't too thrilled with our four holes, but she has been a sport about it. She has even agreed to help finish/landscape our shelf portion of the layout....
Thanks BobbyD, I think I am ok, it took her 34 years to break me in, I don't think she wants to start over now. I was blessed to get a really good one (wife), she puts up with all my hobbies/crap. She does wonder when I will grow up sometimes. I will post pics when I finish.

My wife would kill me outright if I did such a thing. But then again, the only wall I could out a hole in would open up right into the shower stall of the bathroom on the other side of the wall, so even if she was OK with it, it wouldn't work out.
John..... Do you really think that ?

That or its not in her " sphere of influence" so all is good. Here is a quick video of 4294 coming out of tunnel 1...
Wow... I like that the paint booth and washing machine / dryer can coexist in the same room... Unless you of course are now head of the laundry dept....
Yes, I commented on my own topic my wife wouldn't go for that. First, I do as much wash as she does. Second, ours is in such a cubby hole, I can't see how it would gain me anything in my circumstances.
Mall that said; this looks very impressive and workable to me.
or the kitchen cupboards.....had to shorten on of the doors....
engine service area above the front load washer & dryer...
next level is above cabinets....
