Doug ,aka, Laidoffsick, sent me two clips of his Santa Fe 2-10-4 he just got back from gunrunner John for super chuffer.
Doug did the weathering on this loco and I think it is outstanding.
Enjoy!

Doug does some nice work! That beast looks awesome! I want one of these engines to drag PRR coal around my layout.

Duplicating when the PRR leased Santa Fe units on the Sandusky Ohio section? That would be awesome.
Yes sir. I keep looking for a 3rd Rail like Doug's. These are great looking engines.
The weathering looks fantastic. As a novice with running smoke equipped locomotives - are there any issues with drops of smoke fluid marring the weathered finish? Any tips to follow?
Doug is a master of very nice weathered models, both diesel and now steam.
Really enjoy and look forward to his next youtube video.
In plain American English: "OUTSTANDING!"

Ed, I have given up on smoke units for the most part. I weather with acrylics and do not seal with Dullcote so once enough oil gets on the works I have to scrub it down with Windex and touch things up. That's not so bad really but the oil that seeps out of every crevice and seam needs to be fully chased out.
More excellent modeling from Doug! But then I've come to expect that from him. Big fan of his work!
Thanks for the reply Norm. My one smoke equipped locomotive is a MTH PS3 2 rail J which the N&W has loaned to the Pennsy for test and evaluation . I don't plan on weathering the J so wiping smoke fluid residue off the boiler once in awhile shouldn't be a problem.
WOW !
Doug is a modeler. There's no doubt about that.
Doug, your permanent record has been awarded ten merits for realistic sound and smoke on engine 5021, as well as an "unwashed" weathering job as known to have existed often on 5010 Class locomotives.
Excellent Smoker, it should come with the Surgeon Generals warning in the box
Doug's weathering. John's Super Chuffer. What a winning combination!!!
Not having Doug on the forum is particularly troublesome. He is a stalwart of the 3 rail scale community. It only hurts the Forum not to have him here.

Could not agree more! Our loss.
I'm assuming the Locomotive sound system is from Err.
I also noticed that Gunny installed 4 chuffs per rev while he had it apart?...................................

Agreed. Maybe if many of us wrote directly to Rich Melvin, we could get him "unbanned"? He has a spectacular layout and is an EXCELLENT 3-Rail SCALE modeler.
Check out Doug's 14 minute u-tube video on this. It reviews the entire process and is excellent.
He talks about the smoke fluid and how to handle it... Pan Pastels.
I know Doug had business difficulties with some of the OGR staff and I guess it got out of hand. But, I think the big loser is OGR and us who enjoy Doug's work. He does some limited posting on another forum, but that forum web site is a poor one from a users stand point. This site is glitch free and wonderfully clear and easy to use. However, we shouldn't lose good 3rs content such as Dougs. Others whose work we enjoyed are presently too busy making a living or have other issues and do not post anymore. We still have some great modelers on the site, but I really hate to lose even one.

Yes I too miss Doug here. I do catch up with him and what he is doing on Facebook groups.
I agree with ya'all. Never talked to Doug. But I have been a member on here for several years and always enjoyed his work. Inspired me to leave the 2 rail obsessions behind and jump on to the 3 rail wagon. Him ,Norman,Rich and all the others making 3 rail scale so **** appealing. I vote bring him back! For what it's worth

Our very own GRJ is one of the admins of that "other" site, so that explains a lot of why those problems exist.

Not sure what you mean, but I think their web service is very poor.
