Downloading a complete thread

You can go to that topic, scroll down to the bottom just above the Add Reply box and select 200 replies per page.  Once that loads, right-click to open a local menu, left-click on Save Page As..

That will allow you to save the whole topic as an .html file to a folder on your hard drive.

If the topic had more than 200 replies , then you'd just repeat this process for each page.

What SteveH told you above is correct, but I would add one thing. Make sure you choose "Web Page, complete" in the "Save as type:" box.

That will save everything, including the images.

Thanks for that clarification Rich.  [Web Page, complete...] is the default Save Page option in Firefox, Chrome, and Edge.  I'm not sure about Safari.

I would also add that weblinks within the Topic in question would be saved using this method, but I don't think this way saves the information in the linked pages, ie. a video hosted on YouTube or information on another website (just the link to it).  There used to be a simple to use option with older versions of MS Explorer that would even copy linked info from other sites.

Apparently there is still a way to do this, but it involves some command line stuff.  Here's a link for anyone interested  Also looks like HTTrack Website Copier would do this, mentioned above by Mike.

If your not into the working with command line inputs, you could go to any linked content and make copies of that too.

I'm going to offer another one, although we may debate the practicality of it.  I've used a feature that I found buried in my copy of Adobe Acrobat (not the reader, but the generator).  It's called "Create PDF from Web Page".  My copy of Acrobat is Version 9, from 2008, so it's quite old.  Since I don't have a newer version I don't know if this feature is still present in newer versions.

I do know that it works, and most importantly it captures links and linked pages fairly well.  But since Acrobat is quite expensive, unless you already have a copy for some other reason it's not going to be cost effective to buy one just for this purpose.

Here are several screen captures from using the feature:

Check out the attached captured PDF of the Lionel 2000 Volume 2 "web catalog".  When you open it you'll see that you can navigate using the table of contents by clicking on the entries.

I like Adobe Acrobat Professional, and even when I was working, I had to get permission from my boss to get a copy for work use due to the cost. Now that I'm retired, having a copy for personal use is out of the question. It's a really useful program.

For the 2% that are using Macs, in Safari click File, Export as PDF and save.  I did it with this thread and attached below.
