Passenger Train Collector posted a picture of an ATSF Chief Drumhead in the Weekend Photo Fun thread.  It is beautiful!  I did a search and came up empty, does anyone know if there is a company that produces replicas?  I would love to purchase one, but I am pretty sure real ones are both rare and very costly!

thank you

Tomar makes some really nice drumheads that are more scale in thickness. There is also a gentleman on ebay, "Dan's Drumheads & More" who makes drumheads. They are a little thicker in depth than the Tomar, but they do look great and are affordable. I have one on both sets of my Rail King passenger cars and I'm pretty satisfied with the look. This isn't the greatest picture but it will give you an idea.

I can't get a good image with it lit up, but they do and look excellent.

I believe Kevin is asking about a real (or reproduction) drumhead.

I seem to recall someone making reproductions around 20 years ago, but it seems they're long gone.  It seems there's a couple of auction houses that handle this kind of thing, though.

Here's a link for illuminated herald signs, but it's not exactly what Kevin's looking for:

While Tomar is more realistic, they are lit by light bulbs. Dan's drumheads is lit by LED's. Both are not perfect. for near perfect, IT would be the Tomar drumhead lit by Evan's designs Chip LED. I say forum sponsor Evans Designs because the LED doesn't Flicker like Dan's does. You can't tell by eye sight but try to make a movie or take a digital picture and you can. HEre is a picture of a Dan's Drumhead for the Polar Express....

Kevin:

I will look to see if I can find the info you are looking for. I have attended many, many train shows and this is the first one I have ever found in either a show or anywhere else for that matter. It is a real attention getter as most folks who visit the layout have never seen one before. In all the years I have gone to York, I have never seen one there as well.

Thanks for the compliment.
