I am working on a MTH Daylight Special(RailKing 30-1119-1?) steam engine that was produced in 96 or 97 and has the electronic horn only, no other sounds, no battery and not PS-1. The engine only runs in reverse. It will run N-N-R-N-R. The boards are two boards sandwiched together, like PS1 but no battery and only four pins connecting the two boards. The speaker is an 8 ohm speaker that does ohm out around 9 ohms. The horn will blow almost constantly and not very well. Maybe the speaker is bad too. I checked the boards and did not see any burn marks or blistered capacitors, everything looks okay. I have no way of checking the boards and do not know what does what. The reverse unit is obviously working but it won't go in forward. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would really appreciate it. I thought I could reverse the wires on the motor so it will at least run in forward. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I had this issue with a Nabisco gs4. Your reverse unit is busted. A good fix is to just switch the wires so it runs in forward N-N-F-N-N
One board is the horn/whistle the other is the reverse board. The reverse board needs to be replaced. I would do what nick stated.
This is probably a QSI board. If you post a picture, I may have one that I removed from a whistle only loco of that vintage.

If you don't find a board, I know that Harry Henning III has a box of old reverse boards from upgrades, I can look and see if he has anything that will fit.
The reverse board(bottom) would be all that I need. The owner is not really interested in whether the horn blows or not. Let me know how much you would want for it if you have one. Thanks
I'll take a look next time I'm up there.
If you do not find one soon, give me a few days and contact me. I am not feeling well to look today.
John and Marty, Thanks so much. Will check back in a few days. Marty, hope you feel better soon!
If you have a board, contact me thru my email.
Dave, I have a few that look exactly like yours. One puzzlement is that one I took out of a MTH GG-1 of that era has an 8-ohm speaker, and one I took out of a Challenger has a 16-ohm speaker. I see from your pictures that yours is 8-ohm. I'm looking over the others I have to see what the speakers were
The latter also include the plug and socket, for connecting loco & tender.

It cost me $10.
