I'll be ordering from them, once I decide which number to order. I already have the Legacy 4014, and once it's restored it will have an oil tender... so I gotta pick a number.

Are you sure Lionel is going to make it? What if they don't get enough pre-orders for it? How many are they going to make? I would think they would need to get about 200 confirmed orders to make it.

Last Friday at the local toy train shop, I was told the MSRP is $2500.00.

 

Also for the first, he would require a substantial down payment.

Can you order more than one?  So many cab numbers to choose from,

Seeing they're going to be built to order, you should be able to order as many as you can afford.

Big, sigh......what to do....what to do.  I already have a 4014.  Do I miss out on this opportunity or do I bite the bullet.   The more I think about this, I really can't justify $2200.00 for a train.  As much as I like this version, I can't help but think how much more will the next visionline  train cost.  For me, its time to draw the line.  Pete

Think if I go into my bank with a lionel shirt and railroad cap on and asked to see the bank manager for a loan to buy a small railroad he would loan me the money? Good luck on that one hu! Kudos to those who can afford one. Me I can only drool one the brochure. Sad I know.

It really does not matter if it cost $2500 or less, it is still allot of money no matter how you figure it.

 

If i do buy one, other engines must go to pay for it. so for now it is yes I will buy it but it is subject to change.

Got the same e-mail. Great service form Charles Ro. They make sure you are informed and give you options about the final pricing when it is available. Good job.

I am sure this Lionel Vision Big Boy is a super engine but for the money--- I would buy a Sunset 3rd rail brass Big Boy if one were available for pre-order etc.. I have an older 3rd rail Big Boy and its a nice model. I can not see paying that much for plastic and die cast. Just my opinion.

Are financing options available

I would love to have one but I would be afraid to touch it!!

Is this an example of "sticker shock"?

Too big for me to run on my layout.

 

A run of a 'reliable' Visionesque Hudson would suit me better.  

 

Giant(read really long) locos just don't do it for me.

I placed my order for one each of 4005 & 4006. I have also ordered two 4012's. One to run and one for display in my office.

Yep, you save your pennies between now and the end of next year, and when Charles Ro sends you the credit card bill, have the money to pay for it!

I guess I don't understand Lionel pricing very well.

Can't help but wonder why engines like the new H7 has been reduced in price $300 from its previous release the JLC H7 and  this BB is $800 more then the previous JLC BB using the very same tooling.  Also, that price included a $350 Legacy control system?  Electronics upgraded from TMCC to Legacy didn't seem add to the cost of the H7.   Also, whistle steam didn't raise price in other recent engines.

So, initial hype aside, I guess I'm questioning if the tricked out coal load is worth $800.00 extra Lionel is charging over the previous issue?

Well, the Big Boy has two separate audio systems, three speakers, and four smoke units.  Besides the coal load, it has two separately timed stack smoke units, whistle smoke, and blowdown smoke.  It has independent audio in the boiler and another in the tender.

 

So, it's not just a tricked out tender.

 

I already ordered #4004 and #4014 from my LHS...

 

But it was very nice to get this email from C Ro.  I liked the price range they gave and giving us the option to reconfirm the order was great...

 

Cant wait for these great engines to get here...  Now I have to get my layout ready for them!

plus all the new loading sounds of coal and water and the interactive 'play' of monitoring engine load and travel distance etc.. etc... etc, and you are forgetting the new Lionel Track sensor and the powersupply that comes with it.

Ok, I ordered one. Charles Ro usually has the best prices.

Hmmmm…  You just might be onto something Eddie.

 

As these prices get so high, perhaps we could form a 'co-op' with other local modelers or our club and treat this like a private aircraft purchase. We could form an entity to hold actual ownership and then we each become 'stockholders'.
