You can now order the EMD F7 Sante Fe Yellow Warbonnets on the 3rd-Rail website. They should be without a doubt the best in the industry and this opens the door for all of us who have been looking for this set.

Please take the time to complete a reservation ASAP so that Scott receives enough orders to go into production. I ordered my set today, an ABA combo.

Congratulations!!!   It appears as that your efforts to have Scott Mann produce the Yellow Warbonnets are going to pay off.  I support your cause and hope that there enough request to make it happen.

I recently talked to a few people that are familiar with Scott's diesels and am now leaning toward an ABBA set of Santa Fe RED Warbonnets to serve as primary power for my El Capitan.  Alternate power will be an ABBA set of MTH Proto-3 Alco PA's that I purchased a few months ago.

Enjoy the day.

Jim, if we can get enough orders to move this project forward to production, that would be wonderful. Those who place an order for these will no doubt have the best Yellow Warbonnets available.

To build the order count, Jim, you could always order these as YELLOW and then paint them red after the fact.

You have never seen me paint.  I would like to help you out with a YELLOW order, but when it comes time to paint, I would not be able to "stay within the lines".

This is not something recent, I've had this problem since 1st Grade.

OK this is the most popular Yellow Bonnet paint job:

1

The 315L above being stripped in preparation for its conversion to a CF7.

315L in service.... also the lead unit for the MTH DAP ABA set. IMO I think this is the paint scheme that Scott should do for the Yellow Bonnets.

A few variations of the Yellow Bonnet above.... I don't think Scott should do either of those.

This is actually an F9 above, and one of the very few.

seeing as I started the yellowbonnet thread asking Scott to do this scheme and he responded to all the interest shown, figured I better order one. Just ordered the F7A Yellowbonnet unit but the F7b in regular warbonnet. That and also ordered the El Capitan too. Just hope they dont all come in at the same time.

Good move Sam!!!! You will not regret having this one on your layout. They will undoubtedly be one of the most recognizable engines on your layout. I have a set of K-Line 21" Lightweight passenger cars that I bought especially to go with these engines.

The FT stirrups are not the same as the F3 onward stirrups.  The FT stirrups match the early e-unit stirrups.

What I meant was, I'll just get some of the FP7 stirrups if Scott has any spares, and modify those to body mount them on my FP7s. The FT's and F7s should come with their own body mountable steps.

From the few pics I saw, the B units used for passenger service seemed to be the red warbonnet scheme, while the few yellowbonnet B's were all pulling freight. But that is based on just the few pics I have seen. For the Texan which ran thru OKC to Dallas the B units all seemed to be in red warbonnet and usually just the lead A in yellowbonnet. Which is the reason I got a Yellow A and Red B unit ordered from Scott.

It is not beyond the realm of possibility that, given sufficient reservations, he might email all the reservation holders when the time comes.  Without sufficient reservations it is moot anyway.  This is how the early and late freight SF FTs happened.  The early was not on the original list as he had said they would be early 50s versions.  There wasn't sufficient demand for the as delivered WP FTs so I lost out there.  So it goes both ways.

It may have had to do with which units were steam generator equipped.

If the B unit had stainless steel side panels above a wide "yellowbonnet" stripe, it was a passenger unit.  If it was painted blue above the yellow stripe, it was a freight unit.

There were no "dedicated" freight F's on the Santa Fe with stainless steel paneling. Although the 325 class were ""dual service" they were all delivered in red warbonnet and all the B-units of the class had steam generators.

Rusty

Great information Rusty!  Not being a Santa Fe modeler I never dreamed there were so many modifications and alterations to the original War Bonnet scheme.

I guess it narrows my focus even further as I want the yellow nose, silver pilot and stainless side panels. Red striped "B" unit would be second choice, but the "A" unit yellow nose color with blue logo like on #315 is a must.
