We watched Emperor of the North ( originally going to be called Emperor of the North Pole - I didn't know that ) last night - It has been forever since the last time I saw it - Ernest Borgnine, Lee Marvin, Keith Carradine - Shack, A No. 1, Cigaret - felt like a giant Lionel train set

I know recommending movies and places to eat can be a little risky but if you get a chance - lots of scenes and ideas in this movie

Thx

A-No-1 was a real person, Leon Livingston, who wrote stories about his time hoboing using the A-No.-1 moniker.

Speaking of monikers, did you notice none of the characters have real names? All the hobos use their hobo monikers (Cigaret, Gray Cat, etc.), and all the railroaders are called by a nickname, often relating to their job. A 'shack' was a conductor, 'yardlet' was a yard switchman, 'hogger' an engineer, etc.

p.s. Cigaret was based on Livingston's real travels with Jack London.
