Hello everyone, new here. I just recently bought a new Lionel SD70MAC BNSF in Executive Scheme 6-28223, and he said that it was new, but when I put it on the tracks it just jumps a half inch. All the lights come on and the smoke unit works. I have it running on fastrack with a CW-80. My old super chief set engine works great around the track. You can even hear the engine trying to go, what's the deal?

kelby,
You're right that it is a conventional engine.
First thing I would check is to see if something is jammed in the gear train. Could be anything from a loose traction tire, to a piece of ballast, or a small screw, etc.
Best way to check would be to remove the shell and separate the motor from the truck. See if you can turn the wheels by hand and look for an obstruction.

If it has rubber traction tires, check to see if they might be binding against the truck frame of the metal brake shoes. I had this happen with a factory fresh Lionel Legacy F3.
No. The wheels will not turn on this engine. It has a different style/gearing worm than your older engines. The only way to check for foreign matter is to remove the motor from the truck, unless you are extremely lucky and the foreign object is in view on the underside of the gearing.

Check the gearing, engines with magnitraction tend to pick up pins and such that some times jam things up. If the problem is not obvious perhaps you should bring it back to the store. Good luck.
Gregg is right on with that. I get many engines that are bound up because of bad (oversized) tires. If that is your issue, cut them off and the correct fix is to put MTH tires on.

Yep, my Lionel WP F3 w/ Legacy had that same problem.
Have the gears been cleaned?
Has new lubricant been put on the gears?
