Hi Everyone,

I was testing a new MTH engine last night with several MTL track, I had to use the hard shutdown the DCS remote which shut everything down. That is not the issue, the issue is that I unplugged my power source, after putting my power source back on, the TIU comes up, the track has current per the MTH lighted connector to the track however I cannot get the engine to start. the remote keeps saying 'Engine not on Track. Any ideas?

Ok I may have a real issue here. I have reset my only TIU to fact defaults and the remote, when I am using THE FIXED 1 ports I get power to the track however; The remote keeps saying no engine to add even when the engine is on the track. If I use Fixed 2, the engine starts up automatically but I have no control, this occurs every time I I remove power and add power back via the 1000 brick. Do I have a TIU issue here? Any ideas? Could the fuse in the TIU be defective- I guess if it was I would get no power.

Thanks

Don't forget the tiu need a power supply to  function  or  turn on .( power to fixed 1 or an aux power supply) . If you're using fixed 2  is the tiu  turned on. take a peek at the red led on top of the tiu,, is it lit?

Does  the read find the tiu?

Reset the remote and start over with only one engine on the track at a time.

Hi, the power is on I have been using this unit for over a year now. At this point it looks like that something happened to the unit.  My question now is, why is fixed 1 and 2 working differently from each other? A nd when using fixed 2, am i suppose to see any lights in the tIU because I do not however I do get power to the track using fixed 1 and 2

There are separate components that control output DCS signal.  I still think you missed Greggs point.  If you are going to use FIX 2 for the track, you still need to power Fix 1 to get the TIU power.  Or else use the auxiliary power port.

If you apply power to Fix1 and Fixed 2 input, and have an engine on the track powered by Fix 2 does it start up or stay silent?

If silent then go to advanced menu option and do a "Recover Engine"  if it doesn't work try it 3 or 4 times.  If still can't find the engine, you need to remove the TIU and see if the engine runs in conventional fine.  If it does, I think you have a TIU issue.  They can be repaired, I do repairs, but let's get some more testing done.  G

Fixed 1 and fixed 2 are straight through connections.

, what goes in comes out the other side. . However if the tiu is in the off state , power still flows through the tiu  (unless a fuse is blown) but  now with no dcs signal..   This is the signal you need to add engines.

Can you get the tiu powered up (red led lit) with power to fixed 1 in?I 'm going to have to catch you later. The guys will get you fixed up.

Using fixed 1 I do get a red light in the TIU. I also see what you are saying when using fixed 2, an Aux power source is needed or also use fixed 1 to get power. Using fixed 1, the engine stays silent. I will try the recover engine however at this point there are no active engines in the remote, they were all removed doing the factory reset on the TIU and a remote reset. Thanks Gregg

Hi All,

Ok at this point, fixed 2 is working fine with an Aux power supply however; when using fixed 1, I just keep getting Engine not on track. And at times the engine will start up on its own but I have no functionality with it at all. it looks like that I will be sending the unit back to MTH for repair. Apparently the e-stop must have caused something here.

Tanks everyone for all the help.

Ed, yes the e-stop was for crash prevention into track bumper. It seems since then, Fixed 1 does not function properly. Also, I never realized that when using Fixed 2, an external power supply must be used. Any way I ma going to try the suggestion from gunrunnerjohn re: the DCS step up. I just really hate the fact that I have package this TIU up and send it back to MTH. I also tried to get another TIU from my train shop while I was working on this one, but they are not getting any in until March.

Also. I have tried 2 other engines with the same situation on fixed 1.

If you want to send it to me, I should be able to turn it around faster than MTH.  E-mail is in my profile.  G
