i prefer the Burlington road name

The "most correct" model, in 3-Rail, would be the Sunset/3rd Rail/Golden Gate Depot Burlington E7A. That said, you need to decide what era you like to model, i.e. the Burlington with the black nose treatments (pre 1958 as I recall), or the red nose treatments (post 1960).

The second best choice, in my opinion, would be the MTH Burlington E8 A-B-A set, but just don't use the "B" units, as the Burlington never had any E7 nor E8 nor E9 "B" units.

Been looking around, and I see Denver Rio Grande western had a total of 6 unit that started in production Jan and Feb 1947 (PA1), and the PB-1 April 47.  Also saw a few pictures with CZ equipment in Colorado from the 50's.  In my opinion there two sets could have been used.  I do recall riding the CZ out of Chicago in 56-59 with the red nose burlington to Denver, then a change of equipment for the ride to salt lake.  My vote is the Lionel set A-B-A 6-18107 for the price. Any way you pick Dave you will have a great set.

columbus,

The Burlington used A-B-A "F" units on the CZ for only about a year. Once the Burlington realized that neither the D&RGW nor the WP was actually going to "run their power through" to each other railroad, the Burlington quickly assigned E7A units to the CZ, and put their A-B-A sets of "F" units into freight service (removing the steam generators).

The Original poster was specifically inquiring about CB&Q operations.
