Has anyone been able to assemble which of the Legacy engines have the infrared emitter option?
I don't think all have them, but don't know which ones do.
Thanks,

The engines released from about 2010 and on. Mike Reagan has a list according to Rudy (Railsounds) Trubitt from Lionel. 8 pages long and the type of a phone book.
My best answer is if it is less than 2 years old you got one.
Unless someone has documented this other than Lionel, that's the nest answer I have.
my legacy northerns 6-11332 were produced in 2011 and have the emitter.
so I would say all engines since 2011.
might be earlier though
There was a recent post here with a listing of the engines, but it's a bunch of image files(converted to one PDF by John, but still an image), so it's hard to do a computer search for text for your engine.
It is supposed to be a complete list up until now, though I believe.

Rats! Most of my Legacy engines are early issues without the sensor. Since I'm not buying more engines for the foreseeable future, investing in Lionel's new control system does not seem like a good idea for me. Too bad you won't be able to get an upgrade kit.

You can search that document. Click on the Adobe icon at the bottom right to open the reader type controls. On the left, you should then see a binocular icon to perform a search of the document.
or the CTRL + F.
You can't search it as it is comprised as graphic pages that were scanned, it's not text.
or the CTRL + F.
I'm going to have to admit you have me stumped with that one. I right clicked on either your link or the one John provided(though they seem to be the identical file), saved the PDF directly to my local PC, then opened it with Acrobat Reader X (or even Acrobat X at work (or whatever the formal name is for the write capable software)).
When I hit Ctrl-F and search for any text it will not find it, and when I right click with the mouse and check the Selection tool, it defaults to where it wants to draw a box around a section of the page (where it should have the ability to highlight text just like you would do with Word when it's a searchable file).
So to summarize, it's not that I was using Firefox or IE to view the PDF, I wasn't.
It's a handy list either way.
{edit: Oops! Just saw John responded hours ago, I musty have had a very old tab open in my browser form earlier today that I replied to. Thanks for the clarification John!}

Ditto on the Oops! Thanks GRJ. Too fast on the reply.
Thanks for list!

I've done plenty of the "too fast with the reply" that I have to take back later, it's not just you.
I'll see about getting a searchable list of Lionel engines which include the infrared transmitter--please stand by.
And for folks like CAPPilot, who don't currently own any locomotives with the transmitter, I'd like to add that SensorTrack is *not* a required component. To give one example, with the LCS WiFi and free LCS iPad App, plus a Legacy or "1L" command base, you can operate all your TMCC locomotives and Lionel command-controlled remote switches. Other LCS modules, such as the accessory switch controller (ASC2) offer more functionality, again, without the need for SensorTrack nor locomotives with the infrared transmitter.
I'm not trying to down-play the fun of SensorTrack--there are a lot of compatible locomotives out there already and every Legacy and Vision locomotive we're building now includes the transmitter. But I want to be clear that the Layout Control System, as a whole, is compatible with every TMCC locomotive Lionel has EVER produced. It's just SensorTrack that requires recent locomotives.
