Dear Fellow Trainees:

Just in time for Christmas, the Entenmann's vat cars have arrived at our shipping location based out on the tip of Long Island in spite of various Super Storms and Nor'Easters.

LITTLE (Long Island Toy Train Locomotive Engineers) have started to mail out these beauties to our customers who have previously ordered them.

Instead of the usual Orange and Blue box, this Lionel factory produced item comes in a specially decorated box.

Because of their past popularity, we ordered a few extras.

If you would like one of these, you can download an order form at:

We hope that you continue to support our Organization.  Profits from this car are going to Honor Flight Long Island to provide transportation for a plane load of WWII Veterans to attend their memorial in Washington D.C.

Thank you.

George Faeth, formerly of USS Salem and Grumman Aerospace

Bob Mintz, formerly of Da Bronx

Dear GG1 Guy:

If Entenmann's (actually Bimbo Bakeries) ends up buying Hostess Bakeries, then we have a potential "in" with them.

LITTLE has an exclusive licensing agreement with Entenmann's to produce their items.

Our next car is a legacy Grumman Hellcat.

The photo does not do it justice, the flatcar will be made in a translucent (see through) scheme to resemble the plane flying through the air.

If you have any suggestions for another Entenmann's car, perhaps a caboose or an inexpensive engine, please let me know.

Originally, I had one of the vats as milk.

I looked at the major ingredients of the yummy chocolate donuts, and chocolate, flour milk and sugar were the top 4.

Entenmann's had the final say and requested we substitute butter for milk.

The vats do not necessarily have to carry what is labeled on them.

Could it just be a moving billboard for all Entenmann's ingredients in their products?

But you have given me some ideas for this continuing series...

It looks more like a Beechcraft Bonanza.

Dear Fellow Trainees:

As of yesterday, all Entenmann's vat cars have been shipped.

Glad some of you guys can leave sitting next to your mailboxes.  Warm happy campers are what we desire here at LITTLE.

Please keep the suggestions coming in.

Just to give you a LITTLE insight into the marketing process, we need to balance what our customer base wants, what Entenmann's desires, and most importantly, cost.

As you are aware, we have never charged for shipping, and with the US Post Office proposing rate increases next year, we are trying our best to give you the best bang for the buck.

We again thank you for your continued patronage.

The LITTLE Team

...

was this the first car?  if not, what others exist?

you could definitely point to the Baker's Chocolate tank car as an appropriate mean of transport, not to mention it being a very popular car.

and if you go for a finished product transport, a reefer would be the correct choice over a boxcar.  reefers not only refrigerated, but also provided heat venting (from ripening produce), and protected transport for many food items; and unlike boxcars which were mostly owned by the railroads, many reefers were owned by private manufacturers for the transport of their own products.
