I just ungraded a TMCC steam loco with the ERR Cruise Commander M. Serial line is properly in place on R2LC. When I program the Loco and set the engine number, the following instruction is to "Press[AUX1] [n], where n = the engine feature code (this must be done!)" The feature code is 4 for "Steam w/Rail sounds."

When I press AUX1 I am unable to get a numeric pad for setting the code. Instead I get the symbols for a steam loco.

WIthout this code, as the ERR instructions say, "the loco will not respond to throttle commands and may even enter into conventional mode and rocket down the rails!"

INDEED IT SURE DOES!

So, good friends... how do I resolve this issue? I need to get the AUX1 code set and see if I can get this upgraded loco to respond as I expect it to under cruise command. (I have tried pressing what would be the 4 position on the steam symbols screen but to no effect.)

Ideas for resolution appreciated!

The numbers are still there in the same positions.  However, if you want to see numbers, just change the type to CAB1 for the configuration and the numbers will stay.

Are you 100% sure the serial line is connected properly?  That's one of the few things that can go wrong installing the Cruise Commander M, the rest is just moving plugs.

Another point, for the CCM, I'd suspect that the real issue here is you have an antenna issue with the original locomotive and the R2LC isn't seeing the TMCC signal.  That's where I'd start.

John/Bill: John, I basically started over and went back through all my steps and did discover I had the wrong pin identified. Once I corrected that the engine performed beautifully. I don't know how many times I checked that pin before this post! Bill, by way of your inquiry, this is a C&O Berkshire #2743 (6-28697) loco.

Gentlemen, again my thanks!

Bill, I am pleased to learn of your dealership for ERR. I have other purchases planned for the future.

Wes
