The cruise commander M is a single modular board that replaces the original motor board on the Lionel board.   Un plug the motor drive board and plug in the new one. The Cruise commander is a total separate board that requires that all of the boards be replaced with the cruise commander.  The ERR site has an accurate description of both boards but does not have an accurate picture of the commander M.

Hello all,

I've seen these two different type of cruse commander Ms on ERR's site and have no clue what the difference between the two is. I have been installing the normal generic CCM in engines but have never touched one of the diesel CCMs. What is the difference?

Thanks,

Brian

The diesel CCM has a specific output of pulse (AKA duty cycle) used for ramping up the prime mover engine sounds. It matches the function of an original DCDS from Lionel- again so the sound system in a diesel responds and ramps the prime mover sounds https://ogrforum.com/...79#69425981453359179

Again, on the "universal" cruise-m module- the pin 2 digital output is a repeat of serial data

On a diesel specific variant of the cruise-m module, pin 2 is specifically a pulsed "duty cycle" output for telling the sound card to ramp up or down the prime mover engine sounds.

Technically you can use either module in most engines- however when you need a Diesel one in a Diesel that needs that duty cycle output to ramp the sounds- the universal one won't work to ramp the sounds.
