Hello all. New user here, this is my first post. Last week I found an old box of mine that was filled with ERR sound commander 2 kits I bought for projects.

My problem is that I don’t know, and don’t have written down what Version numbers correspond to what sound set! Searching the internet and archive.org  yielded nothing so I’m hoping someone out there knows the details?

I have
2 version 2.11
1 version 3.31
2 version 3.72
2 version 3.82
1 version 4.22
2 version 4.32

1 version 4.42

I have two other bagged kits which indicate that 3.72 is an NW-2 and 4.42 is a steam (switcher) so that’s a start.

I bought them in person in Santa Clara way back when, so I don’t even have an email receipt I can use to sort these out.

I rigged up a harness to test them and I can obviously tell which are steam, etc. but I’m not savvy or experienced enough to tell which board is supposed to be which engine, and so on.

I have another couple of boxes with various cruise & mini commanders, etc along with some full railsounds 4 kits but at least those are labeled.

Any help at all would be appreciated. I feel like even though none of this is latest and greatest  I should pass along the bulk of these boards to folks who will use and enjoy them…

thanks!

Marty, thanks. 3rd rail had no info and suggested I get on the forum and ask the community at large.

Pete, thanks - I can’t be 100% sure of anything, but the two labeled railsounds kits I have from that period are the 2-board “railsounds commander” RS4 boards. The boards I listed above all have identical form factor and pin out as the “Sound Commander 2” document still online at 3rd rail.

thanks again, all.

Probably the only way to know what they are hook them up to power and serial data.

If you have an engine that has been upgraded with a Cruise Commander it should have a 3 wire harness that goes to sound boards you can use.

Pete

Pete, thanks. I hooked them all up and tested them - I can obviously tell which are steam, etc, but I lack the experience to know which steam, or which diesel etc.. each is supposed to model.

maybe I’ll go through them again, and compare to whatever recordings, videos I can find on the web.

I was hoping somebody out there stashed a cheat sheet of version numbers…
