So, the room has been redecorated and work begins on the conversion.  The first object was to build the shelf layout, get the track laid and wired.  Wiring consisted of track power and a lighting circuit (115 volts) for the Department 56 buildings, and a rope light for accent lighting.

I went through several iterations on the rope light.  I found the 5000K light far too stark for an accent light.  I choose the 3000K warm light in this instance.

When the shelf layout was completed, the wall art was hung.  I figured it would be easier to hang before, rather than after the benchwork was constructed.  I am currently planning a couple of changes.  I will be adding three more Franklin Mint wooden racks to display more 1/43 vehicles.  As with everything, I bought far too many than the benchwork can accommodate.  I have sufficient flat car (auto transport) cars to build three trains with 6 to 8 cars each.

You might notice that in one corner, there is some artwork depicting Alice In Wonderland.   I had thought there would be room for a small scene, but that may not happen.  I have a few more signs, and need to change some or just figure out how to incorporate the new ones with the old ones.  It’s an evolving thing.

Looks great Bob. Do you have more than one track on the shelf or sidings so you can switch trains?

Love the signs and the shelf brackets are cool.

Are those BOSE speakers on the mantle too?

Not Bose, but the next best copy.  There is a passive sub-woofer under the benchwork.  They were by a company named DAK.  It was a mail order outfit based in California.  They sold lots and lots of electronic equipment that was good to high quality, and inexpensive.  I believe DAK operated in the eighties and early nineties.  I was always pleased with what I bought from them.

I only run one train at a time now.  I used to run two when I was doing LionChief Plus.

FYI a gentleman by the name of Sol Harari has purchased dak.com and is slowing reviving the brand no massive subwoofers or bread makers yet but it’s growing.

The original founder was Drew Kaplan.  I remember the mailed flyers having long descriptions of each product.  the more you read the descriptions, the more you wanted the product.  It was a great marketing effort.
