I did some train running today, with my shorty Rugged Rails F3 (3 volt PS2 package) on my upper loop. At one point, I lost control of it, total control. Couldn't stop, blow the horn, etc. Just got check track. I cleaned the track, and ran another engine up there and all was well. Put the F3 back, no luck. Just get check tracks.

While I was running trains, I was changing a few address numbers on engines (the F3 included) that were running. The layout is powered CURRENTLY by 1 Z1K powering the upper and lower loops, 3 trains in total. My other Z1K, which handles just the upper loop, is powering the Christmas tree layout for a few weeks. I usually have two Z1Ks running.

Any and all tips are much appreciated.

Changing engine IDs can get a little tricky if the engine  battery is not up to par. The new engine ID number gets  written   to the board by battery power  upon powering down the layout or track. If the battery is poor the engine reverts back to old established when it had a good battery.

I always shut down the layout for a minute or so after changing a engines ID just to make sure the new ID sticks with the engine otherwise you may end up with with  incorrect ID number .

Now for the F-3... maybe try deleting it from the remote and adding it back again, see what happens??

SJC,

I wouldn't think its a good idea to be changing addresses while running any engines. I don't know why anyone would that. Good way to lose control. Always do so when the engine is still and make sure the address change takes.

Try deleting and adding back the engine as Gregg recommends.
