if it isnt recognized how can it it be reset? what do i do?

Is the battery charged?
yes it is charged. i dont have a separate charger but i did leave it on the track in neutral for a full day and it does the turn off sequence when power is killed.
Exactly what are you doing, step by step, and exactly what happens at each step.
ok i set the chessie on channel 4 and after doing that the dcs still cannot find the conrail.
additionally the conrail will no longer start up when chessie is selected on the dcs. i am guessing that is saying something in conrail has it on channel 3 and something else is restricting it from being added to dcs
One more time:
hi Barry i am attempting to add a conrail diesel to dcs. it is not recognizing the engine. in conventional mode all works well and i reset the engine using con mode.
i then reset the all the engines, tiu, and the remote itself.
then i first attempted to add conrail but it would not recognized by dcs.
i added all the other engines back to dcs just fine.
i put my ps2 chessie on the track. the chessie is on dcs channel 3. i also had conrail on track at same time for no particular reason. but when i started the chessie the conrail also started. i repeated this thinking it was a fluke but it started every time using the chessie selected on the remote.
i took the chessie off the track and conrail started and operated. only thing that did not work was after activating the bell i could not turn it off withoiut having to shut down the engine. i did at thsi point try to do a factory reset on conrail but it would not allow any editing at all in the options. i then put chessie on the track again and with chessie on track i was able to turn on and off the bell on conrail.
with that i did as joe suggested and i switched the channel on chessie from 3 to 4. i then tried to load conrail to dcs but to no avail. in addition i am now unable to start conrail when having chessie selected on the remote. i am thinking conrail is set to channel 3 on it onboard memory.
Does your engine have any info like a product number? Is it a 5 or 3 volt board?
Using TIU one and I would use Fixed 1, do a "recover engine" from the menu instead of add. The engine id may be out of range and the recover engine might find it. At that point the system resets the ID # within range and you can add it. G
i reset the engine using con mode
A conventional reset is a Feature Reset, not aFactory Reset.
i did at this point try to do a factory reset on conrail but it would not allow any editing at all in the options.
Exactly what commands did you enter and exactly what responses did you get.
G i did the recover engine but did not locate engine.

Seems like the 2 engines have the same ID... I'm not sure what you mean by channel 3 etc, Do you have full dcs with tiu & the dcs remote.
when adding engines you really should only have the engine you're trying to add receiving power. all the rest should be off the layout or on dead tracks.
Start over with a remote reset and one engine only on the track while trying to add.
Would reprogramming the engine sound file do anything for helping did find my engine? I'e read some recommend this but outside on ps2 sound file I don' see how that would help with did finding the engine

Don't forget the loader would have to find the engine before a sound file could be installed. The loader might tell you the engine's ID number and if that ID is taken with another engine it's PROBABLY not going to add unless you're using a programming track.
I've had the same problem with a PS2 5 volt Erie E from around 2000 or 2001. Battery gone and Capacitor unit in so its not a battery.
When I powerup convention it runs like a champ.
In dcs you can hear the initial click so it recognizing the pilot signal but Absolutely nothing else happens.
Engine is not recognized and the recover command doesn't help.
My guess is a bad board.
Any suggestions???
Hi Marty it is a 30-2194-1
5 volt board
John mine does exactly that and is a 2000, 5 volt board
Only thing is if I select the chessie on my remote it will start the thing up and run. I have to check exactly what features work for Barry to suggest ideas but at this point it starts and runs just under another engine in the remote.
Gregg you are right i forgot about that important point.
Gregg yes I have DCS with TIU and DCS remote.
I did try adding the engine with nothing else on the track. And tried the locate lost engine feature.
I did not try adding the conrail while the chessie was on the track. I only meant both the Conrail and Chessie trains were on the track when I started up the Chessie. When I did that it also started the Conrail.
What I meant by channel 3 is my Chessie's DCS remote address is #3. It is the #3 engine listed on my DCS remote.
I think the conrail is somehow programmed with the same or similar engine ID as my chessie and also programmed to be in the #3 spot on the DCS remote. But i cannot change any aettings in Conrail untill i can get DCS to recognize it.
I' really sorry if I'm not explain g everything properly. I appreciate everyone's time and patience.

Yes I forgot that small little mountain of a point!
Are wheels and Pickups clean? This is the point where a bench tester can help sort out what is wrong. Board or engine/wiring.
Having said that I have seen PS-2 5V that no longer respond to DCS, but run fine conventionally. Nothing you can do unless you want to replace the board. G
GGG WHAT you said seems correct. I tried everything possible. PS2 and 3 is far from perfect and needs homework on protecting its circuitry and programming. Further the coding of an engine needs simplifying so dcs does not lose an engine. That is simply ridiculous for what you pay for these systems. An owner should not have to jump hoops to get the engine going nor should buying a used engine cause issue of the engine coding being scrambed that the new owners dcs cannot find it.
I took it to an authorized dealer / repair shop and they were baffled, no answers which at this point I did not expect any.
I do believe it is simply lost in ps2 limbo.
I may replace with a 3v board but do not want ps3.
Thank you all for your help and great suggestions. I'l just mark it up ps2, 1 Charlie 0
New Board on Order
Battery is all chared. However I am able to add engines when there is no battery attached. Bit this one is in and charged.
