By 1952 Baldwin is on their own engine listed through the 50's. Cast bronze .yes heavy ..a mere 8 pounds .Baldwin tends to stamp serial numbers on the fuel tanks ...so here you have #2 ( painted and in video) and #59 ...guessing they made less than 200 of these beasts . Walthers big roll out of the FM found in MR April 1949 ...where a number of the finished models are lined up ..to be sent out as demonstrators..in a hobby shop near you.
So in the photo one of those engines is #4 ..rare to get a builders photo of a model train .
I had hoped the double head as shown in ad photo....reality was different ..,back to back as shown ..opposite wheels grounded ...no go ..so we try nose to tail ...red unit runs twice as fast as the bare bronze one , dragging it around in protest ....so single running unit in video ..

I don't how you match the speeds, need some research on what could be changed in which unit to do that.   However, the problem of running back to back is simple to solve.    Simply put a plastic coupler on one unit so it is insulated from the other unit, then with straight DC, they both go in the same direction.    If you are using Kadees, the strongest solution is to use the Kadee metal coupler in a plastic kadee box.   The mounting screw holding the box on reinforces the plastic box inards.

I am a Fairbanks-Morse fan, sort of.  I have one 1600 HP version, which I modified to a Loewy-styled CNW H16-66.  And don’t forget my doorstop “Erie-Built.”  I am so happy with that one I could pop!

I have three K-Line Train Masters - I hate plastic, but at $100 each and six axle drive I just couldn’t resist.  Raoul Martin of NWSL gave me the first 2-Rail conversion kit, and it worked like a dream!

I like the C-Liner, but not enough to convert one to brass.

But this particular model never quite grabbed my attention.  It may be the Cab slant and window treatment - whatever it is, I have so far refrained.  I do have a mill, so conceivably I could fix those things.

Carey gave me an FA Simon GP7 casting set, and it turned out quite well.  Photos next week.

hello all thank you for your quotes and comments yes I'll have to put in a plastic coupler if I wish to run them back to back I'd say yours is number 7 as I miss wrote I have numbers 2 , 4 and 59.

These are F A Simon GP7 castings- way ahead of their time.  The bead blasted one goes to Carey on Monday.  The yellow one is awaiting tape/purple/silver and ACL decals, and I may leave the third in semi-polished brass.

I am not really a GP nut, but turns out I now own six!  Two of these, three Kemtron, and a Max Gray that needs handrail help.
