Yesterday afternoon several Forum members gathered at the beautiful home of Captain John and his lovely wife Marion for an afternoon of great fellowship, viewing a top-drawer layout, and enjoying a veritable banquet of great food prepared for all of us to enjoy. John's layout is truly remarkable and is housed in a beautiful train room.

I will try to remember the guests who included Marty & Dotty, Alex & Dina, Gerry Mortlitz & Sue (first time for us to meet this lovely couple), my favorite attorney Erol, Paul & MJ, Carl, Chris, Wood & Kathy and Elizabeth and I.

I am sure that one of our members will post pictures of John's layout. It was a terrific afternoon and many thanks to John and Maxine.

What a great day at Captain Johns! I got home last night and other tasks prevented me from posting about this event until now.

As the others have said John and his lovely wife provided an outstanding afternoon of food, fun, fellowship and running trains. It was so good to see old friends as well as meet other fellow forum members for the first time.

MJ and I couldn't believe the choice of food and desert being offered (five different kinds of pie!) only overshadowed by our graciousness of our hosts.

Captain John also gave me the rubber insulators for my GG1 he picked up for me at York. Thanks John!

Alex posted pictures that just begin to show the fun we all had and as you can see Johns train room is a thing of beauty. From the layout itself to the walls of nicely displayed trains.

Another great day in the Ocean State. Thank you John and Marion!

Paul

John & Maxine,

Thank you so much!!!  Kathy & I had a wonderful visit.  We enjoyed your layout and all of the trains, ships, photographs and music records in your beautiful home.  So much to see, one visit only inspires the interest.  We live close so I hope we can spend some more time sharing our hobby.

What a nice family of train friends who came to visit.  It was great to put faces to names and I enjoyed meeting all of you.

Ps - I so enjoyed your allowing me to use your creeper and peek under the layout for a close up of your electrical connections.  At first glance it looks like a hornets nest, like all of us, but with a little study it became very easy to follow the trail of wiring.  Nice job..

John, thank you and Marion for a really great day. It was a lot of fun and the food spread was beyond exceptional. Marion, I'm sorry I didn't get much of a chance to talk to you, but Sue says you are super.

Brian, it was REALLY GREAT to meet you and Elizabeth. It was just so nice of you to change your plans for me earlier this year when we hadn't even met, that I just couldn't believe it. You are a great person.

Dina, it was wonderful to see you again. Who was that guy you brought along? Just kidding Alex. I want those Reading Crusader cars back. Great to see you and I look forward to seeing you at the club.

Marty, I think we each need a stereo system like John has --- and the train comes rumbling through. And the whole house begins to shake, and you can feel it.

Paul, it was great to see you and I'm so glad you're feeling well. MJ is really nice. Sue said she knows an awful lot.

Wood, it was nice to meet you; Dottie, Erol, Carl & Chris, it was great to see you.

Alan, in addition to being MidAmerica 3 Railers, there were a number of NJ HiRailers at John's also. Not to hijack anything, the METCA dinner was at the NJ HiRailers on Saturday night. It was a most enjoyable evening and Stu gave out a WHOLE LOT OF DOOR PRIZES. You missed a fun time if you weren't there.

John, thanks so very much for having us. It was a great day.

Gerry

It was our pleasure to have you all over to our home yesterday. This was the 1st time we have had so many people in our home. This opportunity enabled all of us to exchange ideas, ask questions of others who are a walking encyclopedia of train knowledge and most of all to enjoy viewing each other's train layouts as I have over the past years.

I can't thank the OGR team enough for getting this forum up and running over a decade ago. It has come a long way and has given all of us members the ability to make new friends and find solutions to all our everyday train problems.

Thank you all again for making this a very enjoyable day.

I feel the need to add our heartfelt thanks to John and Marion (where did they get Maxine??) for a wonderful time. All the good things have already been said about the great food, nice people and wonderful train day. This was our second trip to Captain John's and his layout still is as impressive as the first time we visited.  Wood and Kathy: Welcome to the crew, we are glad to have met you. Also, it was nice to finally meet MJ. (She does exist!) The rest of you: It was good to see all of you and share the day.

Looked like another awesome gathering among fellow train friends.  Thanks for posting all the great pictures.   This one fell under my radar.  I've been away from the forum a bit recently.  Hockey season is under way. Eh! (My Son's youth hockey, carpet hockey, dome hockey, XBOX360 NHL 14, AHL, NHL)   I would've made the short drive down to R.I. from Maine.  Maybe next time.

Hi Captain,

Gerry told me about your open house and your layout looks fantastic. I had one but way smaller with trackage similar in shape to part of your's (the T with the side doggones). If I ever do get back to York, I hope our paths cross.  We can talk trains and records.  BTW, I hope Gerry didn't try to sell you a record cleaning kit so your records don't wear out too fast.  Back at Empire, Gerry always offered the customer the chance to buy all the optional extras.  He would have made a great car salesman.

Thanks to Alex & Dotty for posting your pictures for all of us to enjoy. Dotty, nice touch posting John & Marion's pets that were a real treat to us animal lovers. There is also another dog and bird not pictured. Their pets are very well behaved and warmly greeted all of us.

Thanks again to John & Marion for a wonderful day.

Hey Bill, I still have my discwasher

Not only am I late posting pictures, I didn't take too many which is a bit unusual. Guess I was too busy eating, talking with friends, and running trains (oh the horror).

As you have seen from the terrific photographs above, a good time was had by all:
