This photo showed up at the Columbus Ohio Fairgrounds trainshow in Dec. perhaps six-seven years ago. It was an 8x10 format, black and white print being offered by one of the smaller photo vendors at the show, which consists largely of railroadiana. Featured was a 3/4 right front view of a PRR T1 in retired condition, but recently painted. The keystone was missing, and there were traces of rust creeping thru the paint at some of the joints in the sheet metal work. The loco was standing by itself on a spur or siding located in front of a second track at about 6 to 10 inches of higher elevation. Beside the T1, on the far side of the mainline track was a small stone building, like a maintainer's shack, but a wee bit bigger. It featured a centered round top door and a couple tiny windows, plus a tile roof.
What makes this photo fascinating was the freight car about thirty yards behind the T1: An ACF cylyndrical hopper (RR unknown) plus some other cars. The tracks on both sides were surrounded by trees and lower growth. The ACF hopper is the kicker, as they didn't appear to my knowledge until the late '50s at the earliest. Anyone ever seen this shot, know where it might have been taken?
The side rods of the T1 were intact, so it was not immediately headed for the scrapper. Love to post this, but I'm looking to find it again myself ! ! ! Raises a ton of questions !
